SXT Lite 5nD r2 not associating problem

Thu Jan 09, 2014 10:19 am

Strange one. Got few of this Lite units. They do not want to associate to AP. In log it say
"failed to connect , on 5580000 not allowed"
and also on some
"failed to connect , on 5300000 not allowed-too many clients"
Have on average 30 users connected using this AP's. Give this message for eight AP's.Thought it might be OS 5.22, upgraded to OS 6.7. Same problem. The AP's is RB 433 with OS 5.26 installed. Could get it to associate with link 10 km away. Also RB433, only change, running OS 5.21. Tried with second SXT light. Same problem. Any ideas or suggestions?

please upgrade the AP and the Clients to RouterOS v6.7 and then try to resets the wireless interface configuration by using such command:
/interface wireless reset-configuration wlan1

After that configure your AP and your clients and check again if you still see the problems with connection.

HI. Upgraded both to OS 6.7 and reset to client to default and set up again. Does not want to associate with these AP's. However got it to associate wit a PTP link that is about 10km further and -83b signal. The problem though is that the AP is RB433AH with two RB52 HN radio cards on each. The PTP is exactly the same equipment and settings as AP's exept for frequency. Have got quite a few of these SXT Lites running on the above mentioned AP's.
Is only the last batch that has this problem now. Only difference i could find between the old and new batch SXT is that the old functioning batch had OS 5.25 pre installed and the new batch 5.22, letting me believe it might be older stock. Have me strummed.
Attached capture of client log if it might help. Also default authentication and forwarding is enabled on AP's. The not allowed is the four AP's with line of sight the client, about 2km at about 70db when scanned.

could you check the AP logs what does they report?
Could you do export compact from the /interface wireless menu from AP and the client and past here?

Re: SXT Lite 5nD r2 not associating problem

Fri Jan 10, 2014 9:46 pm

Ok. Went to the neighboring town, about 90km away. Carbon copy of main site, a bit newer hardware but again RB433 with two PCI radio cards. OS 5.23. Took SXT Light and standard SXT. Both connected perfect. This is really confusing. :? Have eight AP on our main site and latest stock SXT Light does not want to associate to any of them. Older stock SXT Light has no problem to associate. Attached the export of above mentioned AP and SXT Light client that did connect, perhaps somebody picks up something.

If possible try to reset the wireless interface configuration on the AP and on the non-working station and then configure the settings you only need.
Also please upgrade the AP and the Clients to RouterrOS v5.25 or v6.7
Also try to use only AES encryption instead of TKIP.
Enable the wireless, debug logging on the AP and on the client and check the logs.
Disable the access-list entries and check if they are not causing the problem.

Hi Uldis

Thanks for the response.
If possible try to reset the wireless interface configuration on the AP and on the non-working station and then configure the settings you only need.
Wont be able to reset AP, production AP, but it does function with other clients, including
Also please upgrade the AP and the Clients to RouterrOS v5.25 or v6.7
Have already upgrade both client and AP to 6.7
Also try to use only AES encryption instead of TKIP.
Using NV2, don't think encryption should be a problem?
Enable the wireless, debug logging on the AP and on the client and check the logs.
Will try this, but i believe there will be a enormous amount of info coming in, but will give it a try.
Disable the access-list entries and check if they are not causing the problem.
Looks like this might be it, perhaps a bug? Default authentication is on, but after disabling the access-list entries, none of the clients could associate with the AP. After enabling them, the associated again.

Took the AP that the SXT Lite does associate with and disabled access-list. Could still associate. This AP had OS 5.23. Upgraded to OS 5.23 to OS 6.7. SXT did not want to associate until i enabled access list entry. Same error in log as other AP's, not allowed. Keep in mind default authentication is enabled. The PTP link, which is also a RB433, did not have a problem and could associate with access list disable even after upgrading to OS 6.7

Just to test this, i added the clients mac to the access list. It immediate associated with AP. This AP has default associate on, this should not happen, but is clear now.
We upgraded these AP software to to 5.25 in December. Only reason why all the clients could still associate to Ap was that by chance we, as a default, add all clients to the access list. At around the same time we received the SXT lights, but because off holidays and new year no installations was done. Never put 1 and 1 together until now. OS 6.7, same problem. In order to test this i did downgrade the PTP RB433 to OS 5.14. Client could associate again to it.Only conclusion i can make is that there is nothing wrong with SXT Light but that Default authentication is broken in new OS versions.

I have the same problem as you. The difference is that i have about 2000 of SXT 5nD r2 working in my network .
This problem appears on every os ver. 6.X and 5.2X

i tried:
upgrding fw to 6.7 also on ap - not working

the only solution for now is calling our customer and asking Them for sxt reboot, but this not always helps.

the solution described above doesn't work for me

any ideas what else can I do?

What i found was in the wireless security profile, the radius - mac authentication option was enabled. When i disabled this option, every thing was functioning as expected.
