Wireless network for short time rent-out offices

Wed Mar 19, 2014 4:23 pm

I'm about to set up a wireless (+wired) network for approx 25 small offices where a number of persons / different companies will need Internet access. My first idea was to set up 2 Mikrotik APs (951 or similar) and a WDS connection between them. One AP will actually cover all the rooms, but it seems safer to duplicate. There may be a need to set up separate wlans for some users / companies, so virtual APs (and maybe VLAN) support is good. There is a lot of wireless traffic in the area, with approx. 20 wirelss networks (in the 2.4GHz band) visible in Network Stumbler.

My hardware supplier wouldn't recommend Mikrotik (said that they have seen some stability issues) and suggested Motorola AP-6522 or AP-6532. I don't know these products, so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've been using Mikrotik for some time, but mostly outdoor in the 5GHz band... Found them very stable.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

Remember, at Italy one proverb says:
Never ask a innkeeper if the wine is good...

Your hardware supplier can make more profit with Motorola?
Or he do not know sufficiently MikroTik
and he do not want sell to you, if can not give support?

On Italy Motorola, as joke between workers, is called Motosola,
on Italian "sola" are for "swindle, cheat"

motorola:
- virtual controller for nothing (in this job) if need only one AP
- simple AP (vs bridge/routing/virtual AP's/traffic rules in mikrotik)
- 2x price
= same 300mbs (except 20 wirelss networks (in the 2.4GHz band) visible in Network Stumbler.)
+ ????

Thanks for the feedback.

rextended: The supplier is heavily into Mikrotik and know it very well. They also recommended UBNT over Mikrotik in this scenario. It was supposed to be more stable in noisy environment.

DimitriiP: My concern is what I've also seen on this forum, that Mikrotik may have some issues in noisy environments... A noisy environment is also my reason for setting up 2 APs, even if one will be able to cover the area.

2 AP add more noise to environment.
for each AP this will be 20+1 noise source.

WDS devide trafic by 2.

WDS + 20 wirelss networks + 25 offices = ~40-200KB/s for each device(25)
