PtM Links - which firmware for nstreme

Sat Mar 29, 2014 3:39 pm

Hi,

We're an WISP located in the capital city of Austria. Some sites have a quite congested frequency spectrum, at these sites ofthen NV2 works far worse to the nstreme protokol.

With nstreme we ofthen have disconnects (extensive data loss), which we wouldn't have using NV2 (which has way lower CCQ and not even half of the bandwidth on these sites).

Which firmware was the last one not having the nstreme disconnect issue, plus a good rate selection algorithm ?

does it run on 711 ?
does it run on 912 ?

do I need to downgrade the clients ?

thanks, Maria

Use 6.10, actually all my not-gateway not-router (still at 6.7 for various ppp bug) have this software and all of ptp or ptmp use nv2 with 5GHz-n, no problem, no disconnection.

I'm not having any disconnect problems with nv2, just performance issues. Using nstreme instead solves the performance issuse, but give disconnect problems every few hours.

so I'm just wanting to know which firmware was before introducing the nstreme disconnect issues.

Actually all my CPE are using 5.25 or 5.26, on the first month of this year I finish the migration from 4.16 & 5.11 to 5.25 (and later to 5.26) of 2000+ CPE have old versions.
I have no disconnection issue, i have some concurrents over me, I use 5GHz-a with Nstreme for AP <-> CPE link
"5Ghz-only-n" or NV2 are unusable for me, but really good for PtP or PtMP.

5.14 look interesting to me.
RB - Omnitik
12 clients overall CCQ 99%
unspecified - nstreme, pooling enabled, csma disabled, Frame best fit 3200.
snr 50+
all apc are rb 711 all but one (135) negotiated 150mbps rate,
avg ping to client 0ms :) 2300packets send and rece3ived, max 14ms
clients have 16mbps queues, some serious gamers there, no problems so far.
no dissconnection

as for now 76days of uptime.

Never set to unspecified or any.

If you miss to set nv2 security, anyone can connect with CPE or AP!!!

YES ANYONE!!!

If you leave unspecified or any (unspecified = any...)
The AP accept any connection from NV2 because for default NV2 have no security required and no password set!
NV2 not use any security profile specified on wireless tab!!!
NV2 can be secured only with "security & preshared password" settings on NV2 tab on wireless.

The CPE also can connect to any other malicious AP with same SSID (and if necessary same MAC address) on NV2 for the same reason...

I do have a "default settings" configurations file, which gets to any device before usage, setting nv2 security, security profiles, null routes for bogons, country for the cards, ntp server, smtp server, dns server - so no danger for me.

what I found out till yet:
5.14 rocks !!!!!!

on a problem site (due to heavy interference), 5.14 on ap makes perfect stable fast connections for problem clients, useing nstreme, I have never seen before there.
I'm really interested how this will behave in the future (clients are 6.11).

also playing around, setting the basic speeds to way more than 6 mbit (like 18 or 24 mbit), and the supported speeds to also min 18 or 24 mbit, using actual firmware gives a big boost with nv2 and nstreme, especially for tcp.
of course, if you have a connection with -85 dbm, it wont connect any more, but if everything is above -80 dbm (which it always should be way more), it rocks

greetings maria

be carefull!
I realised that 5.14 doesn't work on newer routerboards, i think AR9300 is the key. So SXT/912 won't get back if You try to downgrade them.
I did it and had to climb up the chimney...
