extending my wireless signal

Fri Apr 11, 2014 9:25 am

I have a MIKROTIK RouterBoard CRS125-24G-1S-2HND-IN - RTB-CRS125-24G-1S-2HND-IN.

Now I want to extend the wireless signal (through a LAN connection) because there are places in the building where the signal is very weak.

Can someone tell me what mikrotik product is the best choice for this (and the best price ofcourse :)).

The Routerboard does all the configuration, I don't need a product that I need to configure all over again...

Thanks!

Well. It depends on your other needs. Anyway you can use whatever device that will suite your needs. So what are the other requirements to your APs?

E.g. poe, poe out, other ethernet ports, mimo, special coverage (sector antenna)? Or other needs you can have that I cannot imagine.

no poe, no ethernetports needed (just the one to communicate with the "main router"), no mimo, no special coverage.

The only thing I need:

My mikrotik routerboard has two wireless security profiles.
It's not possible to receive the signal of this routerboard in all the rooms (but there is a lanport available in each room)
I want to be able to connect to both security profiles in each other room also.

As mAP is not available yet and no one knows when it will be, I would suggest to use rb951 http://routerboard.com/RB951Ui-2HnD. You can set the same profiles and ssids but use far other channel then on main router.

there is no possibility to just inherit the settings from the main router? so just make the ap 'slave'?

Should be by capsman module. But honestly it is far future even it seems to be working somehow. Is there any problem to set other device as bridge with the same wifi settings? It is a question of 5 minutes, probably less. And you can copy commands (export from main and paste to other router).

I don't think thats a problem.
I think someone here can help me to do that :)?

So the RB951Ui-2HnD is the best and cheapest option for that?

You can buy second hand rb751 or grooveA or other device with wifi and at least level 4 licence. It will be cheaper.

This question is still ongoing, i want to decide this week.

I found those two:

https://www.interprojekt.com.pl/mikroti ... -1259.html

https://www.interprojekt.com.pl/mikroti ... -1370.html

Are those good solutions? Do I need the more expensive one?

Thank you.

I saw only 951-2n from your link. It is good but today I would think on something else - 2nD or better 2HnD. D states for dual chain and H for high power wifi. If you just insist on price than whatever actual device with L4 license and 2n wifi will work for you.

I have finally bought 2 RB951G-2HnD.

now I want my CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD-IN to be the "main router".
The 2 RB951G-2HnD should work as 2 AP's with the same SSID's and passwords as the main router.

How can I do this, my knowlegde of the routerOS is limited.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link.
I tried to setup CAPSMan but i have some additional questions.

On my main router I have two security profiles (one private and one public) and two interfaces (one for each profile).
Is it possible to have the same on the CAPSMAN AP's? Without reconfigure it all again and again...

Thanks

beware of anemic wireless performance of rb951-2n

rb951Ui is 10 times better

This one has gigabit ports.

Anyone who can guide me through the capsman setup or an alternative?
Thanks!

ok, back to the original topic. I think you do not need capsman. Just use these two devices as bridges where lan and wlan will be joined and put a cable in between. If the wlan will be set in the same way (preferably with different frequency), it will work as you wish.

thanks for your reply.
I already installed Capsman.
Any chance you can guide me with this? Remember my pm? :)

Never mind, I also have installed capsman even I do not use it, because it is part of wireless-fp package.
Sure, I have noticed your pm. You have an answer.
