Which to choose?

Mon Jun 02, 2014 10:01 pm

Hi! I'm new to forum, so please forgive me if I start new thread not in right place. :)

Can you help me with choosing one of thoes RBs (or give some ideas about devices to use)?

SEXTANT G 5HPnD
SXT G-5HnD
SXT HG
SXT SA

I need to bridge two buildings (transparently), there are about 200 meters between places, visibility is good.

Now bridge is created from 2xRB711 with panel antennas, but speed in copying files is something around 10MB/s (80Mbps).
in RB711 there is fast ethernet port and it's too slow.

Is there any chance that I can get something around 150 - 200 Mbps or more?

Thanks in advance.

Since you already figured out that a 100MBit ether port is too slow, there are only SXT SA and SXT HG left as they have Gigabit ethernet.
For just 200m distance I consider it a matter of taste which one of those to choose.
They'll both work perfectly.
Given the fact that it's just a ptp link and you probably won't distribute the signal wider than necessary, I'd recommend the SXT HG as it has a 24° beamspread in opposite to SXT SA's 90°.

Cheers

Thanks for answer!!

Yes, this is link between 2 buildings only and nothing more will be connected.

Did you have some screenshots of how files copying is going on SXT HG? Don't get me wrong, my boss will not let me buy something without proof. :)

Unfortunately I haven't :-(

But hey - these SXTs are so unbelievably cheap that it's worth a try anyway...
A good argumentation for your boss could be like "I can spend three hours to find a screenshot of their performance - but these three hours would cost more than just getting two of those SXTs to test in real life"

Sorry.
