channel width for laptop use

Mon Aug 11, 2014 6:14 pm

we have configured RB433 as access point (ap-bridge) with 12dbi Omni antenna
what should be the configuration to get maximum output from the radio and antennas for a coverage of 300 meters.

we have setup channel width to 20/40 Mhz HT above, is it correct for laptop and mobile use,
my users are complaining that they are not getting signals even at 100 meter from antenna

Please suggest correct configuration

300 meters from antenna???

Indoor or outdor?

And the device used are capable to transmit back?

Use only 20MHz 802.11bg channel for maximum compatibility & stability

If you encounter all kinds of problems try this.
- If you have the little omni antennas, and clients are in a 360 pattern - then point your antennas straight up and locate the antennas in a high location.

- If you have just bad connections - set the mode for B-Only and set your wireless-->advanced settings to the following:
On Fail Retry time 1.00
Disconnect Timeout 00:00:15
Preamble Mode long
Hw Retries 15

If you have a lot of connected clients - then also set Hw Protection Mode for cts-to-self

Dear All,

yes 300 meter from Antenna, and its outdoor.
Antennas are at 5 meter from ground.
Is the height ok, or we need to bring down the height to more lower.

laptop can't reach such distance, no matter what AP you will use. Laptop needs external antenna, or external CPE device, like an SXT attached.

laptop users are just 10 meter to 300 meter from Omni antenna, and they are getting the signals

I just want to know what should be the idle height of the Omni Antenna from the roof of the house.

Speaksandeep:

AP + antenna IS CAPABLE to send signal for 300m BUT laptop IS NOT CAPABLE to send signal for 300m.

It's not so easy nor black or white. I tested successful connection between grooveA2hn with 7dbi omni antenna placed at 6m height and some mobile phones held in hands. Maximum distance with traffic was around 500m in rural area with clear environment. There were 2-3 clients connected to the ap around. Of course it was not stable or generally usable but it was possible. I would not intentionally rely on such concept with mobile devices.

Everything is more or less gray :-)

I have used ethernet category 5e segments longer than 190 m with success even they shouldn't be longer than 100 m as standard says.

Network should WORK not just work from time to time when you are in the right place of WiFi beam.

Exactly. Therefore don't expect that having many mobiles hundreds of meters away of ap will work. Will not.

There is no right answer you can be satisfied with as 300m is far, far over the range than it should be.

Regards,

OmniTik antenna radiation pattern is pretty narrow vertically. It should not be too high, it should be as low as possible
