wifi n on 400x50m open field

Sun Aug 17, 2014 3:50 am

Hi,

Can you please help me chose an outdoor wifi AP from routerboard.com that can provide me coverage on 400mx50m open field that can sustain 60-100mbs fot devices like laptops and mobile phones?

Preferably to have gb port but not mandatory.

Thanks in advance,

This device is complected with external 6dbi omni 2,4g antenna.
If you intending to use it as AP for mobile phones and laptops, it should be enough for users without high needs.
if you want to provide enterprise class service, so please be more specific :)

Hi,

There are mainly laptops and mobile phones (dell, hp, samsung galaxy s, htc, tablets), now, arround 10. From time to time for short period of time some of the devices need faster transfer rate. Not all of them in the same time.

The most accesible place where i can install an AP is arround at 100m from the edge on the lenght ; and 25 m from the wide.

What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

i was initially thinking to SXT Lite5
http://routerboard.com/RBSXT5nDr2
but i don't have to much experience in wifi equipment and don't know from that list on routerboard which can be used as AP and which not.

Hey these are 5Ghz band devices, are you sure, that your customers are using 5G band?
by the way, Lites can't work as AP's, Grooves - can.
In your case initially i would use 1 groove, and after if it is not enough you can add second device on opposite edge.
The max rate, that you can expect from groove - 60-80Mbit halfduplex (it depends on laptop's antenna as well)

More profesional view is to use two SXT G-2HnD's
link http://routerboard.com/RBSXTG2HnD
these are mimo devices, and you can expect more throughput,
but i recommend to start with groove

good luck with your setup

Hi,
SXT G-2HnD is interesting, but that 60 degree angle will force me to install at least 2 or 3 to cover the area described.

Which is you next recommendation?

Thanks in advance,

Because the field is not big, so devices will work fine.
Try to install in the corners of one longer edge and aim them to the center of field.

And please post your test results here

Hi,

just received yesterday an connected to my remote network.

I am currently not in the area where the AP is and i cannot test the coverage and transfer speeds.

I did some settings but i am not sure if there are correct. :)

I search on google and didn't find a step by step guide to configure it as AP for what i need and how i need. Maybe one of you can help me with a link.

I already have a router (RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN) configured.

I want that this AP to simply pass the DHCP,DNS, etc requests to the router and his clients to be in the same network as router is. And after that to put some restrictions by MAC.

Thanks in advance,

Groove with 6 dBi omni antenna should be working fine as AP on 100 m distance.

Download 6.19 and put only selected packages you want by drag and drop into winbox. Then reboot. It will install automatically. Maybe other reboot will be necessary.

I manage somehow to upgrade it to 6.19 with 3.17.

Voltage is 20
Temperature 48.

Same cable cat5e 20m.

Now is randomly rebooting every 10-15 minutes.. from 2-3 minutes :) there is a progress

In those 10-15 min there is no fluctuation in the voltage

Any ideeas?

Oh. You installed combined package. I am not using that, recommend to use single selected only packages instead combined one.

Ok,

What is that? Combined packages :)

maybe i am a beginner, but the website is not very clear about it. just downloaded that "Upgrade package" and installed.

I have a RB2011UiAS-2HnD that working fine with all the packages.. i will disable those one suggested by jarda

Better to download all packages zip and grab only necessary packages to install. Nothing special in log... Maybe you can make supout file and send it to support. They will tell you to make netinstall so you can try it meanwhile...

Yeap,

Cable was the issue.

I replace it with a short one cat5e , 2m , and now it's connects at 1Gb and the voltage incresed to 23.5

almost 4 hours uptime, all modules installed.

btw, is cat6e 100% copper?

Thanks,
