RB922UAGS-5HPacT - stable at very low output power?

Mon Sep 15, 2014 10:26 am

Quite a while ago I was struggling with a 1km link with 24 dBi dishes and RB411AH/R52nM.
To try to restrict signal to 45ish I was cranking down the outpout power of the cards to 0dBm but experienced instability and fluctuating readings.
Uldis then advised me to set a fixed output power of for instance 5 or 10 dBm, as these radios are not optimized for very low output power:

Now I am going to employ a pair of RB922UAGS-5HPacT (using only 2 chains, puchased T due to availability) and I wonder whether there is a point in using mAnt30. Generally I like narrow beamwidths not to waste RF and to lower noise.
However, running default settings I guess I will see a signal in the 20s, so the question is: Is there a chance these radios will perform good at let's say 0dBm or even lower?
Or will i have to increase power and run in the 30s?
Or alternatively, continue to use my 24dB Jirous or maybe even lower gain antennas?
