RB951Ui-2HnD strange behavior with Smartphones

Mon Oct 06, 2014 10:00 am

Hi,

we`re currently running a RB951Ui-2HnD AccessPoint. We`re right now facing a huge problem with our voip clients on the smartphones that are connected with that ap. After i pinged every of those smartphone I saw whats going wrong there.

Ping from AP to every Smartphone (different brands) on WIFI:
Min:0ms AVG:178ms MAX: 568ms

Thats not a good latency for doing voip :(

After thousands of different wirless profiles and settings I pinged a completely other device (Notebook) on the same wireless network and .... wtf

Ping from AP to Notebook on WIFI:
Min:0ms AVG:2ms MAX: 5ms

Whats the problem here? I dont know what I can do to fix this problem :(

In first step try to ping AP from Phone using free ping software (I thing You will see different ping) ...
After that see in registration table and check the signal level to device ...
For VoIP acctualy ping 100-130 ms enough for lower compress codecs, but You need check Jitter, if it's value more then 30 - It is problemm for VoIP.

I tested it with voiptester app on the smartphone and thats are the results:

ping: 30-42 ms
paket loss: 0%
jitter: 0,3ms - max. 12ms
download: 3502KBps
upload: 3604 KBps

Signal Level for all devices is between -45 and -68, I will test if its better now.

Yep we had some bad quality and disconnects during a phone call and I`m now looking for the problem.

If the screen of the smartphone is off then most likely it is in a deep power saving mode.
In this mode it reduces power to most components and it is normal to get such high pings.
Try pinging from the phone or ping it while using it actively.

I already tested this and its almost the same result then pinging it from the AP.
But when I open a website its very low during the loading process of this website.
Is there a way to disable this "sleep mode" on android phones?
