Netmetal 5 PtP Not Working

Wed Dec 24, 2014 6:56 am

Ok so this is driving me crazy...

I have been trying to creat a simple Point-to-Point link with my two new Netmetal 5 devices using Nv2 and a security key. One device is set to ap bridge and the other to station with both having the same SSID... very simple setup.

Both devices show each other registered:
[admin@MT-E895] > interface wireless registration-table print
# INTERFACE RADIO-NAME MAC-ADDRESS AP SIGNAL-STRENGTH TX-RATE UPTIME
0 wlan1 4C5E0C5AE892 4C:5E:0C:5A:E8:92 no -54dBm 6Mbps 36m3s

When I apply a simple ip address 10.0.0.1/24 and 10.0.0.2/24 on each end, I can't get the devices to ping each other.

This is very weird as I have done this a few times with my two RB2011 devices and I am really familiar with the configuration.

Make it simple:
-put both devices in bridge mode;
-set oneof them bridge and one station bridge;
-connect one of them to a router with cable;
-DHCP Client on both Netmetals on bridge interface
-ping them.
If it works you will see how really familiar with the configuration are.
Keep in mind that netmetalls start to pass data after ~30sec after they are registered (in my case at least).

Hi.
You should check your route table. Are correct (and default) routes set ?
Firewall ? Any filtering ? ICMP dropping ?

So... Here's answers to your suggestions in the order they are asked above:

1. Both devices have bridge mode enabled.
2. One device is a wireless station, the other is a wireless bridge. *Would it be possible for them to be in each other's registration table if this were not the case?
3. DHCP client was enabled from my original post and still is; here's the weird bit:
The DHCP client on the far end of the link gets an address... this confuses the hell out of me.
4. I cannot ping the far end.

admin@MT-E892] > ip neighbor print
# INTERFACE ADDRESS MAC-ADDRESS IDENTITY VERSION BOARD
0 BH-Bridge 10.0.0.1 4C:5E:0C:47:C8:62 MT-C863 6.23 RB2011UiAS-2HnD
1 BH-Bridge 10.0.0.3 4C:5E:0C:5A:E8:93 MT-E895 6.24 RB922UAGS-5HPacD
2 BH-Bridge 10.0.0.5 4C:5E:0C:5A:E8:90 MT-E892 6.24 RB922UAGS-5HPacD
3 BH-Bridge 10.0.0.4 4C:5E:0C:47:CA:BA MT-CABB 6.23 RB2011UiAS-2HnD

I have had the configuration sitting over night as I gave up and went to bed... Tried again this morning and the wireless registration tables still show them registered to each other (as referenced in my original post); so I know the link was running long enough...

try to reset both devices and start over again.
or
reset both wireless interfiaces and configure new.

are you going to bridge two networks or route from one to another network?

Bridge. I tried a factory reset already.. No luck. I will probably try it one more time.

I know the wireless NICs work because when I revert back to factory state, I can connect to the default SSID with my laptop and configure the device using 802.11x

Station is not compatible with Bridge.
Ap Bridge- Station/Station Bridge
Bridge-Station Bridge
Station means that NAT is enable.
I might be wrong...but 99.99% is your configuration fault.

You were right..

I changed to AP-Bridge on one and and Station-Bridge on the other and everything worked!
