CAPsMAN CPU performance for five cAPs(2n)

Thu Apr 23, 2015 12:11 pm

Hello,
Please your advise: I'd like to setup a network of five or six cAPs (2n) with a CAPsMAN(ager). The expected peak is aroud 50 various mobile phones and net/laptops (small hotel). What is the least suitable manager?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for replying jarda,

I'm already testing on a 951, but I don't really know how it will respond on real load conditions.
I'll give it a shot!

Hi

How longs a piece of string? :D

I use a 2011 with CAPsMAN forwarding (NAT, general firewall, 2 data paths/SSIDs/sec configs and queuing) for a similar setup.

Works well.

Please consider what your using the 2011 for as these decisions all impact on 2011 performance utilisation.

Regards

Aidan

2011 and 951 (951Ui-2HnD) use the same cpu/mem and switching chips, I think the main difference is the presence of the extra five ports.
OK,
so far I've:
  • dhcp server + norton dns
    capsman (one channel for all)
hotspot (just for the intro page, single guest user)
    mangle rules - queue tree
I'd like to add:
  • transparent proxy with cache on a (8G) usb stick
    vpn
Do you think it will still be fluent enough?

The performance of usb storage is quite poor but you can try it, maybe it will be faster than your wan...
