Unable to get ip via PoE

Wed May 06, 2015 4:03 pm

Hi all
this may sound stupid but i'm stuck on this :(
i have an RB2011UiAS-IN which on port 10 will PoE RB922UAGS-5HPacD.
Problem is i can't reach the RB922UAGS-5HPacD device.Got dhcp in the netwrok but it seems the new board is not asking for ip.
I suspected it uses the default 192.168.88.0/24 netwrok but is not.
Any clue?

Pretty sure this is just a bad cable issue.

I can't say for certain what your issue may be, however...

I have been having an ongoing issue with the RB922UAGS-5HPacD boards where they will all of the sudden stop communicating properly via the ethernet. I am getting many clients that are very upset as a result. In every case the board appears to be working fine, wireless is operational, ethernet is linked at proper speeds and full-duplex, but not Layer2 or Layer3 connectivity to RB922UAGS via ethernet. Rebooting the RB922UAGS remotely (wireless via winbox/terminal) will restore functionality. Once the board is working every test we can think to run on the ethernet has no issues, until it happens again, usually within a week. We have installed over 50 units and we are seeing the problem across all of them, purchased at different time period and from different suppliers.

It has been very frustrating, and it is starting to impact my business (2-3 upset clients per day). I have been emailing Mikrotik with all the supout and screenshots, and have recently stopped receiving responses from them.

So far our only solution has been to pull the most problematic units and install RB433 boards in place. We use the same PoE, and cable and magically the problem disappears. We have been upgrading our network to AC, replacing old RB133/RB112/RB532 with these RB922UAGS and I am really starting to regret it.

Of course your problem may be unrelated. Just remember the RB922UAGS can take quite a bit of power, and the RB2011 board you have is limited to 500mA output on the PoE.

Nikkon, do you see the port the 922 is plugged as Running? can you mac-ping its MAC? What does appear on that 2011 ether status?

Have you tried powering the 922 with its POE and plugging it on a gigabit port on de 2011?

I have had similar situation twice now. Never did find out what it was. ended swapping out cable and clips and was ok again. Not convinced that was the real underlying issue though. very odd

Hi and sorry for the late answer... Vacation time
I belive I found out where the issue came from. On the switch PoE out port I changed the PoE option from auto on to force on and now it work. Still I have not understand why this behavior.
