2 x SXTG 2HnD point to point - need advice for better link

Fri Jun 19, 2015 10:29 am

Greetings !

I've managed to setup above mentioned devices in point to point, approximately 800 meters distance, with not so proper "LoS" (with few treetops in the way).

I would like few advices from you guys to get more stable link because I'm having difficulties maintain link, especially when it's very windy (that's probably because of treetops moving).

My current setup is like this:

Second picture - Station:

I would like at least 10Mbit link, the more the better, but stability is more important.

What are you advices regarding channel width, frequency, band, etc.

Thank you in advance !

The signal is very low. With that signal you won't get a stable connection.
On this distance even with some treetops should be more. Try to align better, try 20Mhz channel, mount higher if possible. And I am not sure about regulatory domain for Croatia, maybe you are limited in tx-power ?

Croatia is the same as in every other EU country.

But for the sake of testing, please tell me what setting to use to get highest transmit power possible.

Thank you once more

You cannot change this in quickset. From winbox go to Wireless -> Interfaces -> wlan1 -> Wireless and set Frequency mode to manual-txpower, then go to Tx Power and make sure it is default.

Cybertod, thanks a lot for your help !

I was about to give up but then I raised one station 1 meter higher and got a very good link (24 hours now without drop). I'll experiment with height (and with settings) a bit more to get even better signal but it's great as is it now.

Once more, thanks ! :D

I just wanted to check with you guys about current situation of this connection.
Is this OK connection, considering conditions in first post ?
