[solved]The Dude v6.34rc30 client as a syslog server

Fri Jan 01, 2016 7:23 pm

Hi Folks,

I am trying to run The Dude v6.34rc30
as a syslog server. All I get is a connect dialog box. No dialog for running The Dude as a syslog server.

Can someone give me a clue about how to start The Dude as a syslog server.

Thanks,

donjames

Syslog option is enabled by default on the dude server. All you need to do is configure devices to send logs to your dude server. Check wiki articles below for more reference.

All I get, when The Dude is started, is this:
TheDude.tiff
I DO NOT GET A DIALOG BOX FOR CONFIGURING THE DUDE.

I am not sure how to attach a picture. If you don't see the picture, then please tell me how to attach it.

I can't get to the user interface shown here:

Thanks,

Don James

We need some more options about alerts for syslog.
We can filter the source address so we can make an alert. But this source address is not shown in alerts. So if I make some message to appear as popup I see the message itself but not the originating router.

be sure of configure when to start a new file and the number of files to keep according to your particular volume of logs

for example i had a exclusive dude instance on a x86 server for syslog using 100GB of storage creating a new file every hour and keeping 1000 files that for store 1 month of syslog for all my network, some syslog files have 250mb and more than 800.000 lines

keep this in mind to avoid overloading your syslog server

Hi Normis,

I am not running The Dude server on another machine. Therefore, there is no server address to enter.

I am running The Dude client on a Windows 7 machine. I am trying to configure it to be a syslog server.

My question is: How do I get past the first screen to get to the configuration screen?

Thanks,

Don James

The Dude v6.34rc30 client as a syslog server

The client is just a remote viewer for server instance. You cannot run syslog server in the client application. It runs in server side only.

You can use VM to install ROS (standard x86 or CHR image) onto and run dude package there or run it on some CCR if you have some available.

Check wiki article below for more info:

Or you can run older dude 4b3 server on windows as stand alone service or application according to your favour.

I finally got The Dude server. I installed CHR with Virtualbox on my Macpro.

Thank for the help.
