I am running The Dude RouterOS in a lab environment in VMworkstation v11 on top of Windows 7. I have The Dude client installed on the same machine and using a VMnet network connection for internal connectivity.
I have a configuration that works great with RouterOS v6.34rc19 and The Dude Client same version. When I upgrade both to either v6.34rc30 or v6.34rc34, the Dude Client will hang then crash when adding/editing links. This is very repeatable.
When I fallback to v6.34rc19, again I change both RouterOS and The Dude Client, it is all stable.
I checked the system resources on the RouterOS and I have 71MB memory free and CPU is always around 1% - 5%.
I upgraded my lab from running The Dude v4.03beta which I ran for years without any of these issues. I like the RouterOS as a Dude Server as it doubles as a NAT device into my lab and it is a chance to learn RouterOS.
My installation method is to attach the .ISO file to the VMware guest and boot to install. I have another lab setup using VirtualBox the same way.
