S+RJ10 no link

Thu Aug 17, 2023 4:06 pm

I have bought the S+RJ10 and pluggin in a ccr2004-16g-2s+pc router.
The card is recognized, but when I connect the ethernet cable of the ISP's router, it shows no link, no leds light up.
Also, I've tried to set the speed to 1Gbps or even 100Mbps, with no change.
The ISPs router is in bridge mode and uses pppoe for connection.
I bought it as they will never provide support via Fiber link as you will always have to use their ONT but they already started to install the 10Gbps lines. And this product was listed as compatible on microtik's website.

check this info

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/MikroTik ... ity#S+RJ10

S+RJ10
Use these modules only in 10G SFP+ ports with auto-negotiation enabled, forced link speeds and configurable link speed advertisements are not supported. They will negotiate to correct duplex and highest possible rate. For proper S+RJ10 module installation and recommended use case scenarios, please read S+RJ10 General Guidance.

also beaware of general guidance for thermal management

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/S%2BRJ10 ... l_guidance

CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS -- supports up to 6 simultaneous S+RJ10 modules. i asume you cannot use free sfp cages for thermal reasons

Ok, I know they overheat, but it did not work out of the box. There is only one such device plugged in the first SFP+ port of the CCR2004, I've tried with auto link negociation, with the expectation that it will negociate the 1000mps link speed, but it did not, as it shows No Link.
This is when I tried to set fixed speed, as it was suggested on serveral forums. But it still did not work.
Temperature is around 65-70C, so it's definitely not an overheat issue.
Once they install the 10Gbps line the ONT will be changed to a new one that has an ethernet port of 10gbps. I will try it with that one. But still, I was expecting that it will work also at 1 Gbps speed.
