LTE modem with external LTE antenna

Thu Sep 21, 2023 5:42 pm

Hello,
Do you know if there is a LTE modem with external antenna from Mikrotik products ?
Sorry I tried to find one but there are a lot of products and I'm not really a technical guy :).

Why external antenna ? Because the shelter where I would like to have my LTE modem is fully metallized. So, it is impossible to get the mobile network inside.
I found the Ltap Modem which is a outdoor Modem but I would prefer to have a indoor LTE modem.

Thanks !

As long as the antenna is inside the metal environment, it will not help a lot.
The concept of Faraday cage.

External antenna or outdoor LTE would be the best options.
My view.

Yea, but here he can attach external antennas like Iskra P-56,

I had similar setup before on my vacation house, two antennas mounted to a pole, directed to a nearest cell tower and it worked great.

At the end that's what OP asked for, internal router with possibility with attaching external antennas and router I recom recommended have this option.

Indeed, external antenna with the Chateau model could be possible right ?
I'm not really in a isolated area, I'm not sure I need the external parabolic antenna. There is maybe another model more omni directionnal ?

Thanks again for your help :)

Best solution, just needs to be careful when setting up antenna, it's not just to put them up.

If I were OP maybe I would consider something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cD1cGH ... l=MikroTik

There is an example of MikroTik LTE with external antennas. (1:27)

As you can see, LtAP is an outdoor unit but you can also install it for indoor, it's a very small device.

Regards.

Thanks for your answer.
The external antenna (parabol one) is maybe too powerfull in my case. Indeed, there are some mobile towers close to me.
I thought buying some SMA cables (3m) and connect the passive low gain antenna to the cables.
Then I just need to drill 2 holes for the cable and fix the passiv antenna outside.

Good idea or not ? :)

If you have towers near you and the signal is strong then go for it, you can always upgrade to better antenna.

I recommend considering QuWireless products, known for their LTE antennas. They offer both omni and directional antennas, suitable for various coverage conditions.

The QuOmni LTE MIMO 2x2 is an omnidirectional 2x2 MIMO antenna, working in vertical polarization, ideal for LTE/3G/2G connections across popular LTE bands (like 3, 7, 20) and operates on frequencies from 694 to 2700 MHz
