WHY oh WHY... PoE in/out on the same port + new product request

Mon Dec 11, 2023 1:26 pm

Hello MikroTik team,

is there any reason why are you doing PoE in/out at the same port on ax devices?
For example hAP ax2 and hAP ax3 has this IMHO "most stupid idea ever"

Is there any technical (not economic) reason for that? If it's purely for economical reason, what's would be the price difference between POE/in on 1st port, PoE out on 5th vs. in/ou at the same port?
I would rather have some EUR more expensive device, but with separate PoE in/out...
Something like old, good hAP ac but upgraded to ax. It means 1 SFP/SFP+/QSFP port, 5 Ethernet ports with separated PoE in and out and 2 Wireless interfaces (2.4 + 5/6 GHz).

Will you at least think about a product like that?

Because realistically, device powered via PoE in can not sustain (full load of) powered device via PoE out. And full load it is when device wants to claim compliance to some standard. And we want fully standard compliant devices, otherwise they are a bag of compatibility problems waiting to jump in admin's back.
