What RouterBOARD is capable of 2Gbps as a PPPoE Client?

Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:15 pm

Hello,

I will be moving to a new house soon and ordering a 1.6Gbps FTTP connection which will use PPPoE.

I currently have an RB4011iGS, but I get the impression this may struggle to attain the full throughput on a PPPoE connection this fast.
I don't anticipate needing to use any queues; only FW rules and the usual router functions (DHCP etc.)

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what RB models would comfortably achieve at least 2Gbps as a PPPoE Client?
Also, would these models be suitable to install into a cupboard?

Many thanks

I would first check with your ISP whether they support IPoE AKA DHCP. That will dramatically lower the overhead on the Mikrotik router.

It is quite uncommon for ISP's to only use PPPoE on FTTP services.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately they don't support IPoE; the UK ISP (EE) only currently uses PPPoE.
