Forum broken?

Thu Jan 11, 2024 3:25 pm

I am using the prosilver theme and the board now shows as if it has no stylesheets...
With some effort I could change to Canvas but it does not load completely OK either...
Maybe the forum software was re-installed for some reason?
Are there plans to fix that or do we continue in the downward spiral of less and less usable themes?

I have had to refresh a few times for it to work. Perhaps a cdn or some other issue.

Are there no others that have issues with the forum?
With prosilver theme I get a different page layout for every reload, usually without any CSS but sometimes OK.
With Canvas theme I get a lot of missing graphics.

I already tried disabling IPv6 (because when the problem would occur only on IPv6 lots of people would not notice it), but nu difference.

Same here.
I noticed some issues since earlier this week with general accessibility and missing images.

FWIW, I noticed yesterday 5000+ active Guest users listed on the home page – don't follow it closely but normally its dozen or hundreds. Maybe that just some crawler.
But I have seen it hang more than usual.

When you open the forum page, it looks like this...
It doesn't matter which internet browser you open it with

Yes, that is the problem I have as well.
At first it was only a white page with text and links (i.e. no CSS at all), now it is a partly correct and partly incorrect page.
(so probably some CSS files load and others do not)
Also a lot of the small images that are used in the layout are failing to load.

The issue still exist.
Maybe the forum server is the victim of a DDoS attack?

is the forum ever going to work OK again? Or is it just the new situation that we need to refresh 3-4 times before the page is shown OK?

We fixed it a few days ago, for me it is working flawlessly now. Try and clear cookies, cache, etc.

Edit Added: I've cleared all my cache, now trying ctrl+shift+k disable cache in my browser. Just a side note I use private browsing on at all times.

It appears that MikroTik have implemented a more aggressive request rate limit on the forum, so when loading it for the first time (or with clean cache) the browser's requests (the page, icons, images, css, js etc) exceed the rate limit set so it returns a 503 for those requests, breaking the forum's UI.

viewonline.php?sk=c&sd=a&sg=1

568 Guests (at time I write)
Many do something that Guests shouldn't be allowed to do...
"Viewing member profile"
"Replying to message in "
"Viewing user control panel"

So they could be unidentified spiders or they could be attacks...

It appears that MikroTik have implemented a more aggressive request rate limit on the forum […]

All these suspicious requests could limit the bandwidth available to real users and guests.

For me it switches between old looking phpbb and the new forum frequently. New look when logged out, old look when logged in.

I was still having stylesheet issues yesterday, thought it was just me

Not here either. When I open the forum I now get a jumble of icons in sort of the right colors, instead of the plain white page.
That already happened earlier this week as well.
It certainly looks like there is some rate limiting, and the burst of loads required to get all the stylesheets and icons exceeds the limit.

Can I please have the IP your browser use?
I use IPv6 forum.mikrotik.com [2a02:610:7501:3000::239] and for me the problem stop some day ago...

Re: Forum broken?

At the moment it uses 159.148.147.239 but I think that started when the problems occurred and the "happy eyeballs" algorithm switched from IPv6 to IPv4. Normally I use IPv6.
However I think there should be no difference, it should both work OK.
(in the past it has happened a few times that problems affected only IPv6 but at the moment that does not seem to be it)

If I force IPv4 I have same problem (blank page), is the same IPv4...

Any form of notification/pm is removed on purpose, regardless if is present on GUI.

Simply don't get it. These are personal settings that are not available at all.
The hole "Notifications" is not working. For example I want to get a notification when someone reply me / on my post and etc.
You click now you preferences and after submit - NOTHING! Is a BUG or just disabled for the users at all.
Back in the days I was administrated a phpBB.

It was disabled a long time ago because it made the posting on the forum VERY SLOW.
Apparently it was a very costly operation after every post to check who has to get notifications and send them.
