wireless switch

Wed Jan 31, 2024 12:00 pm

Hello,

I need to configure a hAP device as a wireless switch.

The "Quick Set" offers only one option, "Home AP Dual": a natted WLAN that separates its clients from the LAN.

The WebFig offers only ap, station and station-bridge as options for the wifi interfaces. The default is ap.

A wireless switch is a wireless device that operates like an unmanaged wired switch. When a wireless client passes authentication, it joins the wired LAN transparently. The wireless clients receive their configuration from the DHCP in the LAN, they see both the wired clients and the internet, and the wired clients see both the wireless clients and the wireless switch.

Is the following sufficient to configure a hAP device as a wireless switch?

In the Quick Set page,
- internet: use a static IP in LAN, e.g. 192.168.1.32
- local network: use the same IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.32
- disable firewall
- disable dhcp
- disable nat
- disable upnp

In WebFig,
- add ether1 to bridge

So far, it works for me.

I recommend MikroTik to add "Wireless Switch" in the Quick Set menu.

Thank you
