Is 5W enough to power a hAP ax lite?

Wed Feb 21, 2024 11:16 am

I'm planing to buy a lt6 router for when i work outside house.
It's "hap ax lite lte 6" capable to work if i plug it into my laptop usb?
laptop usualy in port a can not afford more than 1A
I reformulate the query
5w (5v*1a) will be enougth to run lte6 module and wifi? Or maybe i need to disable wifi and go over ethernet if i have just 5w?
Maybe i can success with a ltap lte6 kit?

Nope. AX Lite LTE can go up to 12W.
It will not be 12W all the time but depending on startup sequence or whatever it may be doing, the device may (temporarily) not get enough juice from your laptop.

But ... I already tested it using a power bank (10.000mAh) and could go way over 10 hours usage (light usage on LTE and Wifi, used it to provide internet access to my laptop while working from home so I could really monitor it closely).
Maybe that's an option to solve your issue ?

Personally I would not go for LTAP, MMIPS processor instead of ARM so less future safe.
Besides, power consumption for that one is even higher (up to 24W).

what amperage give you your powerbank? 2.4A is a good output even for a powerbank, I usualy view 2A output usualy

Correction, it's a 20.000 mAh version (Trust 23565, not available anymore)
It can give 2.4 on USB-A, 3A on USB-C.

Please be aware that some Mikrotik devices use the USB-C connector for power but are not PD (Power Delivery) compatible (and they don't even use the - passive - scheme that allows 3A@5V on USB-C), see here:

Thus YMMV (you will need to use the USB-A port or some circuitry to be able to "pull" the 3A@5V).
