Normis, is this after all a x86 or routerboard?

It's a RouterBOARD. Read the New Products presentation from the Hungarian MUM 2011 (Events > 2011).

it uses a similar CPU as the RB1100AH, but a dual core model.

@normis

Do you have any performance info on the X2? I saw that the RB1200 was added to the performance sheet.

?
acceleration is integrated to main board.
what about DC? power feed? the board _IS_ DC powered, with in-the-box power adaptor.

Hello,

I am new to MikroTik products and I am looking for advice.

I operate my business in an area where I only have access to ADSL lines. I need much faster upload speed, and my options are to co-locate my servers elsewhere, or go to bonded DSL (Multilink PPP). Hence my interest in the RB1100/RB1200.

My supplier tells me the RB1100 is discontinued, but will be replaced by the RB1100AH and RB1100AHx2. The RB1200 is still available. These are 3 very different devices.

I have been told that if I don't have enough CPU/RAM resources, then the maximum effective bandwidth I will realize will be much less. So, I want to ensure I have more than enough - but how much is enough? I don't mind paying extra $$$, but I can't really wait for the RB1100AH and RB1100AHx2 to be available? My supplier states they won't be available until October 2011. The RB1200 is available in 2 weeks once they restock.

Anyone know where I can buy one NOW? Or, should I look for a temporary 'Plan B' until the RB1100AHx2 is available?

Thanks in advance for your help.

we have not started to manufacture them yet. they don't exist. RB1200 should be adequate anyway. What are your bandwidth requirements and number of users?

No idea on bandwidth yet - I just don't want to impose limits on the maximum bandwidth I have, since it is upload speed I am most concerned with which is already much less than download.

I bought the RB750GL to work with the 4 lines II have, until the RB1200 is available from my supplier, (They are restocking) or the RB1100AH/x2 units are available, and I bump up to 8 lines.

As a side note - the RB750GL came with a plain brown box, the power supply and the unit. Nothing else. No plastic wrap, no twist ties, no manual, no software. Nothing. The plug on the power supply had white scuff marks on it. I think the supplier shipped me a refurbished unit and full price. Hope it works.

Software is installed, plug and play. You dind't expect a CD, did you? There is no plastic wrap, we are environment conscious :) What twist ties? It's not supposed to be attached like that, it has special cross holes on it's bottom to hang on a pair of screws.

So, it's not a refurbished box, don't worry.

Manuals are online:

The 1200's are in short supply now too, perhaps a surprise at the MUM this week?

I certainly hope so!

This would bring 10gigabit SFP+ interfaces, and pretty much requires use of 6wind's stack which will introduce a pseudo forwarding plane and work with the standard Linux API's reducing the amount of code changes Mikrotik would need to make. It will also add a lot of features that will allow RouterOS to be taken seriously in the ISP and Enterprise spaces such as IPSEC VTIS as well as fast-path.
