Basic wireless questions

Thu Dec 15, 2011 4:39 pm

When I am looking at the registration list for connected clients . I have TX/RX Rate there are a lot of times i see the TX rate at 1mbps which the client is barley able to surf. The RX rate is always at least 11mbps if not more. Why is my TX rate so low and is there a setting I can use to adjust this?

The only thing I have tried is Wireless Interface/Data Rates and selected configuered. i then slelected Supporeted rates for B 11mbps and for a/G 12mbps and above. This seems to then set whoever was at 1 mbps to 11 mbps for the tx but is this even something recommeneed to do what are possible issues with changing these settings?

Any help would be great.
Thanks

How far is the client from your AP. Perhaps you can give more details of signal levels, CCQ etc.
Which make is your client CPE.
May be I can share some tips and you can sort it.

The clients are just laptop computers. Connecting maybe 100 ft away in different rooms.

Here is a dump of current client info as you can see client 0 has a tx rate of 36mbps while the other two have only 1mbps

On the AP what type of radio card are you using?
Is it an N card?

No answer for you, but I can say that I also see very low rates - i had a thread on this regarding the 411 with inbuilt 2.4ghz , and also see such results at another site using the same cards as you.

So far, not very impressed with using WiFI cards on MT hardware in an access point/hotspot mode.

Have you tried setting the distance to internal ?

what make r the wifi cards on the other two networks. what antenna r u using for the internal wifi.
either the wifi signal is not reaching well at the said 2 laptops due to weak antenna or there is some problem with the laptop wifi.
try an external wifi pluggin on the laptop. cause connectivity to ur 1st laptop seems fine. don't set any data rates and see what changes u get.

We are going to be install different antenna to see if it improves as it could very well just be a signal issue. I just wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything obvious is the setup of my mikrotik ap.

Any last thoughts would be great.

Thanks

it is simple to chek. u take ur first laptop to the location whr u see weak tx/rx. if it goes weak u need to change ur ap antenna. if that is good u need to change the laptop Wifi
