Backhaul Options???

Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:21 pm

I would like to know what would be best for me
2 mile link
3 meg adsl at 1st tower need linked to the 2nd tower

Which routerboard would you suggest "cheaper is better for me"
Im not sure what i need since it wont be more than 3 megs but i need as much of the 3 megs as i can get there
Nstream or Nstream 2

The reason I want to use RB is I want to mount them on the tower

Thanks

You will not need nstream2 for 3mbps on 2 miles ... 1 card is enough.
Answer to your question: I think hardware is not powerful enough for
2 cards, better use a RB532 for 2 cards. We tried it once with the small
board, but it ran very wierd.

Every board can run full-duplex, the question is how fast ...
2mbps down/ 2mbps up is full duplex, too :lol:

Have a look here: http://www.mikrotik.com/download/rb112test.pdf
to see the RB112 performance tested by MT. Real world speed
may differ. :wink:

Here is my problem
Tower 1 has 3Meg ADSL Im using Senao CB3s for a backhaul to Tower 2.
Tower 2 is an Access Point for 30 customers now "Will be more"
Im getting more latency with the more customers I install.So I need
to come up with a better backhaul to handle it.

Thanks

If you want it cheap, why don't you use 2 x RB112 (Tower1 <-> Tower2)
for the PtP link + a better AP (maybe RB532) for the 30 (+ X) clients?

Put 2 WLAN cards in the RB532 and seperate the clients, 2 x 15 pcs.

Thanks for all the help
1 more ? if you dont mind
I have an omni on the tower now & i want to change it to 3 120 sectors.If that would help.
What would you suggest since the Router Boards only have 2 wireless cards?

Thanks

You can use any standard pc hardware with at least 3 pci slots
and pci / minipci adaptors to connect the 3 sector antennas.
Or use a RB532 + RB502 (2 minipci daughterboard).

I think there is no difference in performance between a CB3
and RB112. Difference is only in functionality.

I would use two rb532s with 5.xGhz cards and antennas for the ptp. Then I would use three rb532s with sr2 cards in G-only mode.
But then again if you have B clients you will have to run in B/G mode on the AP.
I have Dual band antennas that do 5.8 and 2.4 so my APs are rb532s with one sr2 and one sr5 which connect to the dual band antennas.
I have also moved almost all the client CPEs to MT RB112s or rb532s and I run 10mhz channels on the 5.8 and will be doing the same with the 2.4.
I have found that you need to keep your clients signal in the 60 or below range if you want good pings. One bad client can muck up the whole AP.
WDS repeating and bridging are also two performance killers or have been for me anyway. Route if you can!

* sector antena (90deg)
* 4 x miniPCI card ... :)

if you have PC ...then miniPCI_2_PCI adapter :)
and user COMPEX 200mW or SR2 for 2.4Ghz or SR5 for 5Ghz :)

][ have a nice day ][

miniPCI_2_PCI adapter ? Why not using PCI wireless card instead ?
about the RouterBoard : if I build a WDS should the RB nodes act as routers or just AP's ?
