OSPF and Latency

Fri Mar 11, 2016 5:37 pm

Good day,

Have a small issue with ospf not switching to to backup links.

I have a 11Ghz microwave link to a tower on a mountian give or take 34km away with 2 x Ghz radios as backup.

Now the issue is the 11Ghz are very sensitive to weather conditions like rain.

Because ospf works on link states it doesn't switch over to the backups because the microwave link is still connected but the latency is very bad, resulting in very low throughput.

I had a idea to use scripting to disable the ospf network the 11Gig runs on if the latency goes over 100ms for instance and then to turn it back on after 20min.

Is there a better way to do this than scripts?

set the radios so they disconnect and dont use qpsk or similiar. that way when the signal gets bad they disconnect rather than barely hanging on.
