Powerbox Pro PoE solution

Sat Oct 21, 2023 5:53 pm

Hey guys,
i have a question.

I'm planning to buy a Powerbox Pro for my PoE CCTV system, and my question is, will the PoE OUT ports still support 802.3af/at protocol, even if the RB is powered purely by the PoE IN port, with a passive injector? Do i need an active PoE injector to do that, and can the switch even function as a "PoE passthrough" switch? The cameras should take no more than 5 watts each, and they need the 802.3af/at protocol for them to turn on.

Thank you for your time and possible answers :D ,

Since supplied PSU with powerbox is 24V, I doubt it will output valid PoE 802.3af/at.
For that you need a higher voltage input (which will be transferred by PowerBox to it's outputs).

It's even mentioned on the product page:
Ethernet ports 2-5 can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. Less power adapters and cables to worry about! It can power 802.3at and af mode B compatible devices, if 48-57 input voltage is used

And PowerBox Pro support 48v power supply. So, you can buy a 48POW and use it if your system is compatible with 48v.

Regards.
