Mikrotik device mesh

Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:03 pm

Hi all,

Device that I own, is Chateau LTE 12, D53G-5HacD2HnD, (on the first floor) and eyeballing on purchasing another MT device for reason of removing dead zone in my hom by leveraging Mesh.

Does this require an exact identical Chateau for the mesh to work? Or can I use a different device altogether? As long as I can use winbox on it and configure it etc

Am thinking of this hAP ax2 - C52IG-5HAXD2HAXD-TC,(position it on the ground floor) and use that as part of mesh network.

Would like to know your thoughts and appreciate it.

Thanks,

You can make it via CAPsMAN feature. Just make a sure, you're using same Wireless/Wifi package on your routerboards - there is no compatibility between old and new CAPsMAN version.

Will you use a cable in between, or are you referring to mesh in the wireless backhaul definition?

When using a wireless backhaul, you will loose performance when not having a dedicated radio for this.
If you use cable, it is sufficient to have identical SSID and security settings to create a single network.

Yes, I will be intending to use cable in-between the device.

Then CAPsMAN is indeed a great way to accomplish a "mesh" network.
