PPPoE authentication then passthrough to firewall

Sun Feb 18, 2024 10:48 am

Hi,

i was wounding how i could setup a mikrotik router running V7 to do the PPPoE authentication then pass the dynamic IP address onto a firewall,
ie. ISP --> Mikrotik --> Firewall(watchguard)

i have correctly configured PPPoE and see i get a IPv4 address, im just unsure how to pass the IP on. ive tried messing around with route lists by manually setting the IP i get from the ISP and pointing the gateway to Ether2.

firewall has been setup to "obtain an IP automatically"

Any assistance or insights would be greatly appreciated.

I think it is called 'pppoe relay' which is not available on RouterOS, here are other methods you may try,
- Keep pppoe and NAT on mikrotik and change watchguard to bridge mode 'transparent mode'
https://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/he ... ode_c.html

- Double NATTing (pppoe and nat on mikrotik) and 2nd NAT on WatchGuard

PPPoE is a single threaded power hogging curse.

Ask your ISP for static public-IPV4 without PPPoE.
