PowerBox Pro Yes or No?

Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:28 pm

I have an install that has several boxes crammed into an outdoor box. Fiberoptic media converter. POE Injector.

On paper the PowerBox Pro seems the perfect answer for this install.

I want to add on 2 60Ghz antennas.
The access points are 20Watts Max each.
And the WAP 60APs are like 7 Watts.

So let's say worse case... I need 60watts of output.

Get 96 watt power supply and I should be good right?

I got my A$$ handed to me yesterday at an install. Using the RB5009UP to power 3 WAPs that top out at 13 watts... The access points kept rebooting. Cranking down the power of the access points has stopped the rebooting. So I am going to yank the RB5009UP and and use the standard RB5009 and put a POE switch on it like the CSS610-8P.

I all seriousness... I don't get how the power budget for the POE on the router can be 130 watts with the Power supply that comes with it.

But back on point...

Since the PowerBox Pro has been around for a while... I was hoping for some real world input on wether I am just going to have the same problem

First test.
Defaulted a Power Box Pro and removed the base config.

Made a bridge. Added all the ports. Added a DHCP client.

Connected a WAP60 to port 5 and it powered on and linked up.

Connected computer to Ether 1, and speed tests hit 900Megs

Connected Cambium XE3-4 to port 3 and it powered on. Ran it over night without issue.

If the max Power for the PowerBox Pro is 54 Watts and the Power Draw is 6Watts.

That Leaves me 48 Watts for other devices, right?

My Plan was to use 2 XV2-2T and add on two WAP60Gs. 20x2 at 48 + 5X2 at 48.

Gonna put me 2 watts over.

SO much for that 96watt power supply.

Guess I am looking at a CSS610-8P in an outdoor box.
