RB5009 performance issues

Tue Apr 30, 2024 7:43 pm

Hello,

My current ISP is delivering 2.5 symmetrical to my ONT. There is a link which is tested with a compatible 2.5gb Ethernet compatible device. Upon plugging in the RB5009, I am having a network cap of 1400mb/s down and about 1.5-2gb up. I have factory reset and factory flashed the device to see if I had a bad configuration, that didn't help.

I've tested different ports. I.e sfp+ to rj45 module (this was tested prior to the rb5009 being installed and worked)
I've used the 2.5gb as the connection point from the ONT.

At the moment I have ONT > RB5009 with a RJ45 cat cable link. Tested the cable as well to insure no integrity loss.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be very helpful.

Due to having so many network issues with the RB5009, I'll be RMAing it with Amazon. If anyone in the USA has similar issues consider doing this.

You described a specific network problem, but suddenly there are "so many". That might be the case, but it doesn't help anyone here.

Moreover, advising other people (with "similar" problems - whatever that actually means) to rely on the return policy and simply send the device back instead of working on a solution is very questionable.

These issues with RB5009 are not unknown.

Have you tried disabling HW offload?

There are people showing speedtest results with confirmed 2,4gbit in both directions.

As far as I know, it's a buffering issue with the switch chip. In any case, it helps if you use the RB5009 as a router on a stick. Use the 2.5Gbit port for your WAN and connect a 2.5Gbit switch to the SFP+. Your bottleneck is resolved.

Like here, a CRS310-8G+2S+IN would be a good match.
