ping

This is an old thread so ignore if your not reading. Your wireless works on half duplex. One problem with your sporadic high ping time could be latency induced by the AP being busy sending or reiciving someone elses packets. An isolated test would be to hide SSID, make sure no one else but you is Ac...

RB532

I echo everyone's frustration with the RB532 and Atheros based wireless mPCI cards. My conclusions so far is that there are no grounding issues from the dongle. RB/wireless card locks up while changing settings regarding wireless config. For example switching from Station to AP Bridge or changing ch...

Tape and such

http://sharperconcepts.zoovy.com/category/tools.weatherproofingtape/ This is the type of tape I use although I don't buy it online. A local place has it. It's a kind of tar, putty, plastic that you can wrap around the ends then press and mold out all the possible holes. Make sure to tie down your ca...

antennas and more

Actually, I got ahead of myself on the Yagi. That comment is good for 2.4GHz. On the 5.8GHz links the grid antennas are just as easy to install, have even better wind loading as long as you don't live in an area that ices up real bad. http://www.pacwireless.com/products/GD58.shtml I have used the 26...

Speed

Based on what other stats people have posted I would guess you would be looking at about 42-45MBit. Your max speed will definitely be a function of your CPU on this setup. The more horse power you throw at this the better. One setup someone posted here shoots 120 kilometers with 30Mbit, so if you do...

T1, DSL pairing as an example

Both sides of the equation, you and your ISP would have to bond the PVC's to aggregate to one pipe. Your ISP, probably not in favor of helping you along with this, would make this very hard to accomplish. I have implemented this solution which I call "aggregating connections" via DSL and T...

Routing

What you are trying to do sounds completely fine. Could you paste your routing table. There are many ways to tackle this problem. If I was setting this up I would simply create routes between the different networks. There is a fairly good routing example in the MK documentation for VPN connectivity....

How to get the right power

All things being equal, good cable etc, plug in you PoE power and at the other end measure the voltage. So for argument sake lets say we see only 6 volts at the other end. This would mean you would want to find a power supply that has 12 volts more. . . .30 volts total. This will ONLY be safe over t...

l40Mbit link

Shouldn't be a problem especially given your short distance. Run NStream protocol and use Turbo mode (108Mbs) That should help optimize packets and keep your high speed link going. My only suggestion would be to run 2 foot or 3 foot dish antennas on either side so you can burn through any possible f...

performance issue.

There are many factors to consider and check. First, I would recommend the 24dB directional directional grid antenna. The extra dB helps cut through some noise on an already crowded range. Might be a dumb thing, but make sure you have a vertical mast and have the antenna mounted for a vertical polar...
