Just a short note to say thank you for ALL the effort which has gone into V5.0 (and the pre-releases!!) We have wirelessly upgraded all our BSS & BST's and not one single hitch..!! NV2 is marvelous and - generally - this version has improved the flexibility and control on the network enormously....

I forgot to mention:-

- we use RG-316 DOUBLE Braided pigtails to drop cross-over to minimums. A tad pricey at $8.50 each - but well worth it.

We have lots of RB600's in the field - fully loaded as well as RB800's FULLY LOADED..!!! - ie: with daughterboards and all slots occupied.

Use good components and you'll be OK.

yep - we use 12 V system 75W Solar Panel and 100 Ah Deep Cycle Battery. Although 24V is a tad more expensive, and we have a couple of them on our network - you'll also require a voltage input regulator - i.e: - the Solar Regulator cuts off at ± 28.8V and this will cause the RB433's to close down due...

Two things you need to try:- - 1) Change the Ethernet ports to 100Mb and switch off the Auto Negotiate - 2) Use a 48 VOLT power supply..!!! (either into the power jack or the PoE) This should fix it. The sensitivty of these cards is fantastic!!!

We have changed out all the XR's to the R5H now and I am pleased to say that the results are well worth the effort!!!

It's not always about the costs - but the autonomy and performance as well.

We have several and many of these links ranging between 50km and 90kms using 5GHz only. Using the parabolics we have also used the R52 for (what we call) a "standard link. Normally we use the R52H and/or XR5 with 27 dBi and 31 dBi grid antennas - but lately all the new links have the R5H cards ...

We use a combo of XR5's and RH52H's - simply because it's impossible to insert a XR and R52H in the same pairing... so we use the RB604 for 4 x XR's and 2 x XR's on the RB600 and the balance are R52H's.... Lately we use 2 x 12V Meanwell Power Suppliers in series off a Deep Cycle Battery and charger ...

We are using lots of 600's with daughterboards (that's EIGHT (8)) wireless interfaces...!!!

We are using it on all the RB's RB1000 RB600's RB500's RB4xx - all varieties - All the small 133's still on V2.9.51 We left the 112's out because we are replacing them - not because of anything to do with ROS but they are not keeping up with the loads - swapping them out for RB433's A...

I have about 50 ptp backhaul links with RB532's and RB333's all with SR5 cards. The upgrades from 2.9 to 3.x have all been flawless with no changes in signal levels at all.

Yeah - I suppose... But- unless you want to run a FULL 1+1 (double up on everything!!!) this coulld work out a tad expensive.... I have nothing against using multiple boards etc - but it means to factor out the "single point of failure" you'll need to double on everything including antenna...

We have several RB600's with RB604's attached... - some run 6 x XR5's (4 on the daughterboard and 2 on the RB600) - other have 4 x XR5's on the daughterboard and we load the other RB600 slots with R52H's and R52's iow - a combo of all sorts of cards... They all work well - VERY well... Like HeadBang...

MAC-Telnet into the board from another working RB.....

/system/reset-config

The board will come back with a default IP of 192.168.88.1 on the Ether1 Port

Load ROS 3.10 - reconfigure and you're good to go....

Set it to "Card Rates"....

... and select the power you want - DO NOT go ABOVE the card's abilities... this feature is ONLY to turn down the power otherwise you'll fry the card - quickly..!!

I have some set down as low as 8....

I'll see if we can get a bi-metal temp probe into one of the BSS when we next visit it... and record ACTUAL temps inside the enclosure. I think that the readings are going to be lower than we all expect - but let's wait and see... the closest one to me is ± 60Km - so I'll schedule a maintenance visi...

It might not be loaded - not sure what version ROS you are using, but you might have to download the All Packages for the latest version of your ROS.. unzip it and then copy the DHCP module into the Files ... A 2 meter antenna 80 meters up is going to be FUN!!!! - NOT...

If you could just lift your Side B to ± 80 meters as well you'd be able to establish a good link using normal grids

I've done a Fade margin Calc and Fresnel profile and it could work

I had the same problem....

Logged into another (working RB) and mac telnet-ed into the unit which would not open with WinBox...

system reset from the console

....... and it came back fine after the reboot and WinBox connected...

reload the latest OS and all is OK now.

We still have a couple of these (we're phasing everything to 5.8GHz) and they work well at ±20 Km... that little issue of Fresnel you know... depending on what height the antanis are on the client (station) side - and - what antennas are you using on the clients (stations)...???? It all depends on what service was bought and paid for.... The DVB downstream is normally big... but being an asymetric service the upstream will depend entirely on what the terrestrial tail circuit has allowed for CIR on that link... eg:- it will only accept a 64kbps uplink speed no matter what equ...

Try enabling NTP Client in the packages....

Reboot...

Set the NTP client to:

146.64.241.228 and,
146.64.241.229

set your system to your country clock...

enable the NTP Client... and it should synchronize the correct time.....

Good day We have setup a couple of Hot Spots and we're experiacing the same challenge on all of them - maybe I took "stupid pills"..????? Hot Spot works OK and checks in and out with Radius - it presents the User Login Screen to the users and then pops the Uptime Screen and Status as norma...

I can't remember - does the XR2 have Antenna A and Antenna B setting??? (we've changed everything to R52H's)

Another thing - try using a 8 or 9 dBi Omni instead...

We got it all working - only to discover that Port 443 won't work....

We're still a little "cat-foot" at the moment (live network) - but if you come up with a solution please let me know...
