Re: Interface packet Drops on an octacore xeon with intel ni

You need to make irqs and cores balance and then you will not have this problem in v5 If you have more lanes (pci-e) per one ethernet that is the better and you can setup it so packet drops will never appear. I have an 8 core system 4 x 82576 gige Ports - shows 7rx and 7tx each ethernet auto (like ...

We have not advertised the RB1100 as better than all X86 systems, yes, if you need extra power, currently your option is to get a X86 system. Many of our MFM partners offer preassembled systems like that. We are working on more powerful devices, but there is nothing to announce at the moment. No on...

Any estimated time on 2.9 ?
As well as what features are supported. I dont want to be one of the early adopters and suffer any concequences, which is why i wanted to know how we can have a second box handle bgp and handout the routes to the main router.

using external zebra/openbgpd

How to setup an external zebra/openbgpd to do complex bgp including prioritization of providers etc ? Can we then make MT learn this ?? Since MT does not support the complex bgp features. Any body done this ? What we want to achieve is to prioritize traffic as well as set priority incoming routes so...

Just my opinion on this: But don't be too hard with them - the price for the licenses is very low in my opinion, and if you need more support, MikroTik offers a support contract. Apart from that I think it's not appropriate to say that there's not much support - there are lots of people on this for...

Why dont they shoot a video of this and make it available to all of us on the web. Will help us all train our lower level engineers to manage MT. It can be made available for download or at a nominal fee. AIR Networks announces MikroTik RouterOS Training Class in Malta on April 26-29, 2005. This 4-d...

Dont you have console access (direct access to the system) ?
do an /interface print
to see your interfaces
Then do an /ip address print

Will show you ip and interface details

Make sure you check your duplex settings on Cisco switch on the ports and match them to the nics. We use the same and if you do auto neg. or have wrong duplex things will work but as you scale the bw you will start seeing a lot of slowdown due to CRC errors on the switch.

not necessarily if you drop / delay / deprioritize icmp pings may be back. I know for one that globally icmp (ping) is low priority traffic so ping is not the true test of speed anymore

Check for CRC errors on the switch. I have Ciscos and 3xIntel Gige and single intel 100meg Nics since i upgraded to 2.8.24 weird problems == the FD lite in winbox is off for some interfaces -- no collisions but apparently at high traffic we see CRCs (not a lot) just enough for us to make out the int...

BGP ISSUE FIXED

We fixed it IF anybody upgrades to 2.8.2x should note that bgp settings from 2.8.18 and below will NOT work properly if you have multiple peers. We fixed this by putting in hold-timer and keepalive-timer for each peer by /routing bgp peer edit (peernumber) and specifying value as hold-timer and keep...

well after we upgraded we are seeing continuous flaps . We downgraded to 2.8.21 -- no use

The cpu load keeps going 100 as it relearns after getting connected to the peer.

We had NO such issues with 2.8.18

What has changed ???

switch to intel etherexpress or 3com 905b . They should work with your 166mhz and due to them using fewer interrupts you will see a lower cpu usage and higher transfer .

Where MT is the main router and is doing bgpd (learning routes sent to it by ZO) ZO is doing bgpd with the two isps upstreme. For that your provider needs to be properly bgpd so he has failover and lesser issues as well. That is what I wanted to say BGP feature DOES NOT work well at all even if upstreme has failed and its "connecting" the bgp failover does not work . It should however work as soon as the upstreme...

I graph my cpu average with mrtg and it hits 100% for quite awhile as the router works to clean up the table after loosing a peer, and during that time the routes for outbound traffic are going to be wrong
What config is your router ?? CPU / RAM ?

I am using a 2.8ghz P4 with a gig of memory.
