I have to question that. Maybe the level of intereference I get is so strong it shows up, but I can tell you for certain, mine shows noise and there isn't anyone else in my area that even knows how to set up a 900MHz 802.11 card. I'm picking up noise from below the 900MHz band, licensed frequency. ...
I would like to add a DSL at the site, and use it as a failover. I would like to have the router ping our gateway on WAN1 and as long as it is up, route through WAN1. If the router loses connectivity then fail over to WAN2 until WAN1 comes back up. Can the MikroTik handle 2Mbps sustained NAT'd traf...
Prism chipsem doesn't show noise floor correctly and it always shows -106dBm as noise floor. It very possible that your clients recieve much noise from other networks and of course from other radio applications that use 2,4 GHZ frequencies. Change channel to less busy to avoid low CCQ if you have an...
pfSense has the same problem like mikrotik with load banalcing and connections dropping. Pure Linux with special patches ( http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/#routes ) works better. With this http://lukasz.bromirski.net/docs/translations/lartc-pl.html it's easy to achive. Of course it's in polish but you can fin...
Yes. it's possible but it doesn't work right now with Mikrotik - I've tried to use versions from 2.8-2.9.40 as a load balancer - it worked but connection have been dropped until few minutes and doesn't balance traffic correctly. It's strange cause regular Linux with patches and all additional featur...
ZCOM Xi-1500 is based on Prism 2.0/2.5 chipset. It should work in WDS and Station mode. But bridge mode is not compatible with MT (Atheros based) I guess.
Why don't you use Youtube.com as a server? I guess it's better solution (bandwidth) than hosting files on own server. Quality of the clips is... too low. I can't hear and see anything with details.
Did you selected right channel to turn on Turbo mode in 2.4GHZ ? I've expierienced that using Turbo (wide channel) is not quite well idea, cause interference from other wireless equipment. It's better to use 5GHZ band to provide much more quality links - especially when 5GHZ channels doesn't overlap...
Where do you came from? Some frequencies that are in 2,4GHZ specturm are used in commercial applications such as public telephony, security channels, TV retransmitters, bluetooth devices and many many more. And in some countries such as France using low and high channels are prohibited. To use them ...
I should be published as soon as good tested. RB153 hasn't been tested well before distributed and many early versions of has problems with stability. They have to change PCB to solve the problem.
To avoid mac scanners inside your network you should use BROUTE feature of your MT. It cause that all packets from wireless interface are being forwarded to defined MAC address of the router. So potential attackers or user who wants to scan your network can just get only mac of the router - one mach...
I've discovered something really strange. It has been connected like that : MT[EoIP Tunnel] -- [MT-PC] ( ( ) ) [thisMT]---MT[EoIP Tunnel] Problem is on [thisMT]. When all ethernet interfaces are enabled (no link), they transmit a lot of packets (which aren't broadcast ! torch has showed that they ha...
If you really want to establish high bandwidth connection there should be Line Of Sight even in 900MHZ or 2.4GHZ. NLOS works good when you have enough reflections and used 900MHZ frequencies.
I have many of RTL8186 Access Point Clients directly connected to MT (Atheros 5414) - many of them like Ovislink 5450/5450, Edimax EW-7206/7209, Minitar's etc.etc works perfectly. I've never had any problems with MT based on Atheros. In early versions of firmware for Ovislink and Planet there was a ...
VLANs aren't perfect solution in my opinion (bandwidth decrase). Better way is to buy multiport cards with particular ports managment (much faster switching than VLANs, more speed). Routerboard has been introduced multiple port cards - but the price ;D
I've tried to make MT as load balancer router for 2 different gateways (i've found tutorial @ google) and it worked for... few minutes. Problem was in traffic balance - some interfaces had hugh upload overload but another weren't used. Another problem was in reseting connections :/ Some traffic have...
I have quite small network - over 10 RB's (133,153,x86.. etc. etc.) and many redundant paths to the one point. The problem is that RSTP doesn't discover ports as alternate port to the root bridge, so I guess it cause some kind of loop - in some RBs all interfaces transmit data TX ( few mbits) but do...
