Network drops

Hi. Disclaimer: I am very much a noob to commercial network switches. I'm just an engineer in a tiny company. The Mikrotik network we have was not set up by me and i'm trying to learn as i need to do perform updates/make changes. We have a Windows Active Domain running on a network using Mikrotik sw...

Re: Windows Domain Controller blocked by Mikrotik firewall?

Your AD DC IP is 192.168.0.200 and have DHCP server on it? If so, why to use DHCP on Mikrotik? 2 DHCP servers in one network is a big mess. Disable DHCP server and DHCP relay on Mikrotik and use Windows DHCP. Configure it properly to give Windows DNS server address as only DNS server for clients. R...

Re: Updated the firmware in hap ac lite, now i can't see it in WinBox

Thanks for the reply diddie. The access point continues to function as expected or from what i can see anyway - the only issue is being able to log in to the firmware remotely. Although i haven't tested whether a hardwire connection straight in to the switch would work yet. So fortunately the access...

Windows Domain Controller blocked by Mikrotik firewall?

Hi, I'm trying to setup a domain controller on my Windows Server 2012. I'm running the domain controller, DNS, and DHCP servers on there. The DNS appears to be resolving internal domains both forwards and reverse. The DHCP appears to be allowing computers to connect to the network and obtain IP addr...

Re: Updated the firmware in hap ac lite, now i can't see it in WinBox

That's a big upgrade and encompasses the change to the new bridge switching structure. In it's own right that is a significant change and whilst mine upgraded through it without issues, there is a chance it's config dependent. You will probably need to either disconnect the hAP and bring it local t...

Updated the firmware in hap ac lite, now i can't see it in WinBox

Hi, I updated the firmware of a hap ac lite from 6.34.6 bugfix to 6.42.3 current. When it was on 6.34.6 bugfix, i was able to see the device in WinBox and connect to it using either it's IP address or MAC address. Now that i've updated the firmware to 6.42.3 current i'm unable to see the device in W...

Re: Terminal - not permitted (9) ?

User might not have "Telnet" permissions in the group the user belongs to Is there a way to see group permissions? What do i need to look in? I haven't seen anything that appears obvious. Assuming you are using winbox, system/users/groups tab. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks. Looking at t...

Re: What do i need to learn to become proficient quickly?

You can play with CHR , it's fun, safe and free. That looks interesting. Does it behave exactly like a real/physical RouterBoard? The Hex unit is like what $60US, you can sneeze out a couple of lattes and its paid for......... Get it for yourself at home after you use it to practice.......... I've ...

Terminal - not permitted (9) ?

When i attempt to use the terminal on my RB750Gr2, it gives me a MessageBox with the warning "Terminal - not permitted (9)" Why might i not be permitted? Is the 9 an error code? Can these error codes be found somewhere? My Google-fu is failing me at the moment. - I'm logged in to the correct device....

Re: What do i need to learn to become proficient quickly?

Thanks 2frogs, i'll take a look at it. I have stated to the boss that i would feel a lot more comfortable to play with an offline version to get to grips with it before i alter the live version but he doesn't want to purchase another unit. One day i did accidently block every device from the network...

Re: What do i need to learn to become proficient quickly?

Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate the help and advice. Is MTCNA the best starting point? Or will a more generic course be more suitable? It's not that i want to rush my learning curve, i just want to feel comfortable in what i'm doing to the level where i have a vague idea about everyth...

What do i need to learn to become proficient quickly?

Hi, I've been given the job to look after the company's network. It was put together by someone else who has now left or was a contractor. The company currently has fewer than 15 employees. We have one RB750Gr2 as the main device that connects everything to the internet. We then have 3 hap ac lites ...
