How is the remote network connected? Are they on thier own ip subnet? Once you created a vpn to it you could rdp to them.

Ok i tried this but i skipped hte user_pass function because i am on LAN and those are the only ones i want to access. When i create the Logged_User function i get a parse failed error. I don't think that it is exactly what you are looking for but i wrote(copied) a vb script that pulls the logged in user and displays it. I run it as a tool though. I can't figure out how to get it to display on the map. If you are interested i could post the code

I added a tool in that calls Ping Test Easy. you can get it from www.pingeasy.com alternately you could create a tool that has the line

ping [Device.Name]

Thanks for that solution Here is what i ended up doing, I am not sure which one is better. I think yours is because it is more flexible. Here is another one i use a lot for remote access. It uses vnc and uninstalls when you are done. Again someone else did the work i just downloaded and use it. Can you display OID_column in a column instead of a row?

I would like to display the value of an oid_column as a column instead of a row in a devices appearance. I put in the appearance [oid-column(".......")] and the dvice label shows item1, item 2, item 3, etc. I would like it to dispaly

Are you talking about the displayed name in your maps or the computer's host name? If you are just talking about the display name on the map in the device discovery settings select device name preference to be DNS, SNMP, NETBIOS, IP. You may have to delete and rediscover your devices but they would ...

Have you fixed this yet. if not you could set up an email notification and send an email to your phone@carrier (i.e. 5552122122@att.net) and it should send an sms message to your phone. I think that process is close.

Could you use the blacklist to prevent systems from being scanned? I have never used it not do I know how but it might work. Or couldn't you just scan 10.66.1.0 /24 for servers and then 10.66.73.0 /24 for ap's and not scan anything else?

I hadn't tried the internal tools like ping, tracert, etc. Those do work fine it only exits after using an external program. There are no error messages it just exits

Dude 3.1 exits after using tools

I just installed the 3.1 release and every time I use a tool on the right click menu Dude closes when the tool closes. Anybody else have this problem? Running it on Windows XP as a service. did it also when it was selected to run all the time.

Ping tool does not work

I installed 3.0rc1 and so far like it except for the background problem. I tried to use the ping tool though and it just hangs. When i close the window i get the usual this program is not responding messages. Any ideas?

Custom image problem still exists on mine too. It doesnt crash but is incredibly slow when moving around.

Werent there icons next to the names in the contents pane next to the items (address lists, charts, devices, etc) ? All i have are little black and white boxes and a couple of icons (admins, files, services)

How did you figure this out? I have hp procurve 420's that i am trying to get the same information from and can't figure it out. I have looked throught the mibs over and over and can't find that information.

I have tried the same picture as a png with the same problem. The file size may be an issue. I got the jpg down to 688KB but it is 6000 by 5797 pixels. This same jpg worked fine in 3b7

Background image problem

Has anyone been having problems with using a background image in 3b8. I am trying to use a jpg for a background. It worked great in 3b7 but when i put it in 3b8 the dude stalls out everytime i try to move. If i click anywhere it says not responding in the title bar and then takes minutes to redrware...

I installed 3.08 and noticed it is real slow when redrawing my map. I have a jpg set as the background and whenever i try to move anything, even the screen, the cpu usage goes to 50% and the dude stalls. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by

I really don't understand probes and what all can be done with them. Could i make one that would tell me which port on a switch the workstation is attached to?

When i show the tools list it is sorted alphabetically, but when i rightclick a device and select tools that list is in some wierd order. That is the one i want sorted? Anybody have any ideas?

I just did a quick google search for wmi ie history and found a vb script that should do it. I have not tried it so i don't know how well it works or what it does but you could try it.

What are you trying to accomplish. I have mine setup to resolve ip addresses from the dns name and the mac from the ip. That way if an ip address changes it automatically updates.

I don't know if you figured it out yet - but if you double click the network maps selection on the left side panel the list of maps shows up in a right side box/panel. In there you can select a map and then click the minus sign at the top of the box. hope that helps

I have 3.06 installed and it is not showing any mac addresses for any of the devices found except for printers. I do have snmp turned off. Could this be the problem or is there some other setting I am missing?
