Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

Hi MasterJames, Thanks for sharing your findings on IPv6. I'm in Alberta and share your pain on Telus/Bell/Rogers/Shaw :) You are Welcome. Taking the RB4011 back tomorrow and looking at this one (only similar) option from Cisco. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/rv340w-dual-gigabit-wan...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

I totally disconnect the other router so only one is on at a time? There is no possible chance of interference. I will try rebooting the Provider router but they also get different IPs being different hardware MACs so I again don't see a chance for one affecting the other. I'll report back if anythi...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Anyway thanks for the feedback, you'd think it's possible simple and default mode for activating IPv6, but it does not seem to work. Many say it won't until version 7 of RouterOS and that's been ten years of waiting, which is totally ridiculous. Now I understand why it does not come turned on by def...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

There is not much on the Asus other then what they call passthrough. The providers modem is on a modern Optic network, consumer line I have their wifi router functioning, and on a separate business setup their router is bridged so true complete passthrough. Neither is paying for the static ips that ...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Ok then it is important to know what kind of configuration you had on Asus, by looking at asus config they allow you to choose between: native tunnel and static if it is native then you also have options to use dhcp-pd or static. All of this can be translated to routeros configuration if you know e...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Passthrough most likely means that you need to bridge WAN and LAN port, so that client can directly get the address from provider. What was the original config on the Asus router? Thank you for commenting. They call it passthrough but it's more likely in ROS terms 'forwarding'. I've tried yes as we...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Okay so I tried what you say. windows the information is via ipconfig /allcompartments /all Anyway I have a VM running on there and can also ip route and ip addr Of course the Default Gateway is different and the hardware it can handle working on local addresses so that is expected. On Mikrotik it w...

Re: RouterOS v7.0 beta1 - when?

Wow this is the biggest blunder in the history of the internet. Such a shame since RouterOS is great except for this problem with IPv6 in general. This should be open sourced before they go under. Really it's pretty much to late. I say open source RouterOS 7+ now or die. Release it for the community...

Re: IPv6 recursive nexthops via iBGP

I think this is still not right in 6.44.1 the date is 2019:04:03 feels like a really bad April fools joke?! Maybe this problem I am having is unrelated but similar. https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=147216 I think this thread is ten years old!? this can't still be waiting for version 7 ...

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Maybe this is f'ed?! IPv6 BGP recursion doesn't work on RouterOS version 6. Gotta wait for version 7. from https://www.reddit.com/r/mikrotik/comments/8kbqdp/ipv6_bgp_unreachable_nexthop_through_loopback/ Is this what's happening here? https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=42268 here it says ......

Re: IPV6 passthrough rules

Just for clarity I have realized it was not the Other Configuration flag it is adding this ipv6 address [ It seems windows cached it, and unplugging the cable reset it, while doing a refresh via ipconfig /renew6 does not. ] /ipv6 address add address=2001:568:8561:39ff:82f1:86ff:fe85:1531 disabled=ye...

IPV6 passthrough rules

I have now an old router I am replacing it is an ASUS with IPv6 Passthrough. I have both the providers router and this other network within, where a Windows machine get's ipv6 traffic passed through without any problems. I replace it with my new fully updated to 6.44.1 Mikrotik RB4011 router with ip...

Re: wlan DHCP server RED color

If you plug the outside into Port 2 or other it will show RED in Default DHCP Client as the interface is ether1 once you plug the WAN in to ether1 will be acquired and change to black with the Status bound and a release timer countdown labelled as Expires After (default for me is 24 hrs). I think I ...

Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

Okay well after a number of months and finally a thirds call to the provider (TELUS) they have revealed that only static IPs Macs have the ports open to receive the DHCPv6 Client Prefix Request (on broadcast address port 547). If we upgrade to static biz account for an extra $12/month (in 2019), fol...

Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

I've tried adding ND (Network Discovery) Prefix and other stuff from the Manual Docs. https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Setting_up_DHCPv6 but this is likely more for runnig the DHCPv6 Server 0 * interface=all ra-interval=3m20s-10m ra-delay=3s mtu=unspecified reachable-time=unspecified retransmit-interv...

Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

Thanks for the feedback. So I purged the pool but the ipv6 address entries are red with a comment saying no pool found so I manually entered the pool again but with 60 length and it has prefix ::/0 Anyway dhcpv6 client still says searching...?! /ipv6 dhcp-client add add-default-route=yes interface=e...

Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

Looking at this documentation https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Tools/Packet_Sniffer It is showing the v6 version for filter-ip-protocol like icmpv6 and my GUI doesn't seem to have them in the dropdown has me wondering what's going on there? icmp - internet control message protocol icmpv6 - inte...

Re: DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

I've tried Pinging ff02::1:2 on the interface. If ARP ( Address Resolution Protocol ) Ping is selected it says "arp ping supports only IPv4" in Status Without the (No ARP) Regular Ping has timeouts. The ARP Pings are not logged. This is a default firewallv6 rule set I had derived from official sourc...

DHCPv6 Prefix Request Response not happening. How to Trace Debug?

I have been trying to get a MikroTik router. CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD (mipsbe) RouterOS 6.43.8 to pickup a DHCPv6 Prefix from the PRovider, with their (telus) modem set to bypass directly all control to this MikroTik router. [It's been working great although it was hacked last year with the Socks turned ou...

Re: Packet Sniffer V6 info?

It seems that it's more of a bug in the way the Packet Sniffer Tool displays it's output. I guess it only saves when you stop and then you have to redisplay the "Packets" for instance to see the data going out to get a DHCPv6 Prefix in my case. What I don't see is a response. I'll open another post ...

Packet Sniffer V6 info?

I am trying to figure out why my provider doesn't seem to be responding to DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation Requests. I have fired up the Packet Sniffer but All I see is IPv4 addresses? The Filter Protocol settings should have an option for Version 6 like ICMPv6 or UPDv6 I figured maybe? I don't see anythin...
