The rb44 is essentially 4 network cards on one pci board, so it will show up as 4 ether ports. That thing you found for 14 dollers is just as it says...a network card with a switch, so it will show up as 1 ether port.

I have had no problems with that. I have an trixbox (asterisk) server on a public IP and have no problems connecting behind a Mikrotik.

good point....but then by that definition there is no need for the telnet/ssh function (shortcut) in winbox.
I think in reflection Todd is really after a remote winbox as put forward in another thread.

In winbox click on telnet and you will see a ssh option, this will allow you to ssh to your remote router. It would be nice to be able to change the ssh port in that option.

For some reason this is not working....i have the foward chain set, but its still only dropping traffic coming in and windows file sharing works intranetwork... I am not sure how you can be displeased with the product. Its a fraction of the price of cisco and is very reliable. The only thing I can imagine is causing you problems is configuration errors or finger trouble

I had a similar problem to this, I solved it by adding routes. For example the addresses that you have shown point to 208.65.201.** so I put a route in for any traffic destined for 208.65.201.* to go through your providers gateway.

Personally I dont see the reason for doing this. If a customer is paying for a given bandwidth (shared or dedicated) he/she can do with it as he/she pleases. Although it would be interesting to find out how to do it.

Why don't you also use an authentication method such as pppoe, that way the hacker will have to authenticate with a userid and password as well and get an ip issued to him from the pool, that will make it much more difficult for him to get to the wlan.

Personally I think it is easy to use, its pretty self explanitory. The only thing I think that needs to be sorted out is the menu system, as in it should be in alphabetical order. Oh and the fact that some commands (like email) are not available in winbox
