All I use is LMR400. In general, the lower the dbi, the wider the beam. 21db antennas would be overkill in your application. 120 deg, 12 dbi sectors at each corner would work fine for you. Use WDS or pseudo bridge. Careful you don't scramble the quarterback's brains when the line of scrimmage is near mid-field.

Re: XR9 with 13 dbi yagi antenna over 11 KMs not possible

10 and 5Mhz channels are a variant of 802.11G
I have a 900Mhz link using SR9s running through 1500' of thick forest and it only works in B, but it runs at 2mbps. S/N of only 4-6.

112 will do 115200.
Serial port is the only way to recover a brick
I'd get some 133s and upgrade to 2.9.50

Com 20??? In Hyperterminal I believe you have a choice of Com1-5. But to back way up, why are you using an old 112 for an AP at all? Why not a 532 or 133 at the very least?

Re: Routerboard trouble...

Set up Hyperterminal for a new connection using whatever Com port you want (no dialup #), 9600 , 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. With Hyperterminal configured and running and the serial cable connected, power on the router. Hit any key within 2 seconds to enter the bios after MikroTik appears.

I think if you set the cards to B only and switch to horizontal polarization you'll be fine.

Re: Routerboard trouble...

With your serial cable and hooked up to the router and a network cable from ether 1 to your nic and hyperterminal configured as you noted and running, power up the router and then hit any key to enter the ROS bios. Select etherboot. Now you can FTP the ROS package to your board using ether1's addres...

Thom, I took that directly off the wiki. It seemed to be such a simple and straightforward way to do failover I was wondering if it actually worked . I don't need to do load balancing- just switch to an alternate gateway if one goes down. My only concern was how often the primary gateway gets pinged...

Simple failover

I have a T-1 and DSL gateway, normally feeding 2 separate networks.
Is it sufficient to specify:

/ip route add gateway=192.168.1.1 check-gateway=ping
/ip route add gateway=192.168.2.1 distance=2

to get failover?
What are the parameters on "check-gateway=ping"?

Re: Transparent AP with two wireless interfaces

Put the WLAN that's in station mode to Bridge mode or use WDS to bridge them. "The IEEE 802.11 standard limitation makes it impossible for wireless cards in station mode to work as expected when bridged. That means that if you need to create a bridge, you should not use station mode on that mac...

I don't think the bottom two APs need a WDS link between them.

Re: Ack timeout with Sr9

I can confirm running SR9 in B mode works very well on links with a lot of obstruction, even though the ack is running at around 30-40 in B, B&G, and G-5Mhz. Noise floor hovers around -96 S/N around 12db 1500' of solid trees Link would not stay running in any G mode even at 6mps basic, but is st...

If you are routing, don't use client WDS. WDS is used to create a transparent bridge.

Re: Help - NStreme2 terrible throughput

Yes indeed the Rx cards can be damaged this way-I've accomplished that feat myself. As long as you're into grounding, you could install ground kits on the coax. I had an AP running next to an FM transmitter and that was the only thing that got me steady and low pings (50' of LMR 400). I don't think ...

400 ah gel cell or AGM battery bank with a 4 amp trickle charger works great for flakey AC power situations. 12 vdc right off the batteries to your board.

The signal strength with that equipment at 4 miles no obstruction should be in the -58 to -68 range. We have several AP to client links in the 5-7 mile range, 18 db omni to 24 db grid, 100 mw radios that run with those signal strengths. That same equipment set up 100' apart (your "bench" t...

Re: MT Routers as a NLOS equipement???

Your basic choices are 5 Ghz, 2.4 Ghz and 900 Mhz. The lower the frequency, the better the obstacle penetrating ability. 5 Ghz is really only good for unobstructed line of sight. 2.4 will do a few trees or a couple of walls close in. 900 Mhz will go through quite a few trees or 4-5 walls. You can us...

Looking for a hired gun

I need to deploy an RB532/564 with 3 R52s and an SR9 plus RB133c's/SR9 Clients.
I can't afford to hunt and peck around by trial and error and would like to hire some expert MT help.
Is there anyone from the Northeast USA who would like to help?

Re: Test setup

WDS implementation worked fine. I can ping both wlan1 and ether1 from the remote unit.

My next question is in a typical wireless client setup, is it necessary to create a WDS bridge, or can ether1 and wlan1 simply be bridged in order for the client computer to connect transparently to the AP?

Thank you Louis. I thought I should be using WDS instead of EoIP and I'm sure it will work correctly once I reconfig the 2 units in WDS mode. Re: Test setup

Sorry for the thrashing about. I've been a cabinetmaker for 35 years.
It seems that using WDS would work as well if not better than an EoIP tunnel-but I see that giving all my interfaces addresses in the same subnet wouldn't allow any packets to move between the 2 devices.

Interesting. It seems too complicated with too much overhead just to get a ping through with 2 devices on the same network. Right- the existing network consists of 8 AP's - 7 BreezeCom AP 10Ds and 1 Deliberant 2701.
I would assume that the MT 532/ SR9 AP would only connect another 30-40, perhaps more since the CPE will be RB 133c's with an SR9.
