Re: Low WiFi speeds on hAP ac²

~300mbps is good for Mikrotik WiFi, if you need something faster there are other vendors out there with more innovative technologies like WiFi 6 and 4x4 UL/DL MU-MIMO as well as OFDMA.

Later I will unscrew board from enclosure and see if its IPQ-4018 or IPQ 4019-based.
Even if ROS says IPQ4019 on board you should have an IPQ4018 according to the official specs, I have opened my hAP ac2 and it's an IPQ4018.

Re: v7.1rc3 [development] is released!

What went wrong? Which limitation did appear?
Prolly RAM limitation, ath10k requires 256MB RAM for two radios for proper functionality.

OpenWrt barely runs on these units with a patch to reduce ath10k-ct RAM consumption but it's not usable for anything else than basic router/AP functionality.

hAP ac2 has the same wireless chip as the ac3. Most likely it's excluded from the compatibility list because of it's 16MB of storage.
Storage is not an issue but RAM is, Qualcomm ath10k requires 256MB of RAM for two radios.

The simplest solution will be a slimmed down build with wifiwave2 built-in and "unnecessary" features for an AP/home router removed to save storage.

Of course it'll only be compatible with 256MB RAM devices such as the Chateau LTE12.

Re: hAP AC vs hAP ac3/2

Mikrotik WiFi it's not the best but considering how cheap the regular AC2 is as a wired router you can add a WiFi 6 EAP620 HD TPLINK AP to your setup.

After a year of using OpenWrt on my 16/128MB hAP ac2 I went back to ROS 7.1 beta 6 to check how has it evolved. So far I'm really impressed with the CAKE implementation, it's much better than OpenWrt's after some fine tuning since ROS distributes IRQs across the 4 cores in a more efficient manner th...

If you need Mikrotik WiFi wait for AX lineup, current Mikrotik devices will be unable to run the newest and greatest WiFi drivers when ROS 7 stable gets released condemning them to legacy drivers because it requires at least 256mb of RAM.

Otherwise go with another vendor.

Band steering is more complex than making SSIDs the same, the AP needs to gather information from the environment and the client capabilities/signal to redirect clients to each band.

Mikrotik ROS doesn't plays well with interference like other vendors specially on 2.4ghz, your alternative maybe to go with another vendor nor update to 5ghz. Btw those are really underpowered equipment which may not be capable of handling too much simultaneous users.

Re: hap ac^2 - Group Key Exchange timeout / No Reconnect possible

Hello, I had the same problem on my hAP ac². But currently I'm on 6.99 developer version. Maybe this will work for you guys. The solution is to disable AES CCM in Wireless » Security Profile (default) » General. Uncheck the AES CCM for Unicast Ciphers and Group Ciphers. Just leave the TKIP options....

I hope Mikrotik implemented SQM and fixed those bugs in beta 6, otherwise why would it take so long?

That's because you're using channels 116-128, other DFS channels require 60s and the non DFS ones start instantly.

They can assemble 5G hardware, but I don't think the performance will be as good as another vendors since MT develops their own drivers so they don't need to depend on what Qualcomm says to update the Linux kernel.

Winbox may not be the best looking program written in some heavy framework like Electron with fancy animations and so on but gets the job done, other vendors have nicer web GUIs but they're so slow, buggy and requires you to reboot the router after each change.

You may create a simple queues entry specifying the target IP or the entire interface you want to prioritize. Yeah, that would get the job done for OP but beware that doing that on a wireless network will also limit LAN-LAN speed. I say this since I've seen lots of tutorials suggesting people do th...

Use AMSDU Limit/Threshold 2048, no multicast buffering, no keep-alive, no WPS, WPA2 AES only, 802.11 bgn mode, no noise immunity, choose the least used channel and you'll be able to get at least 80 Mbps using a 2x2 client in 20mhz mode. If your client is 1x1 only don't expect more than 45 Mbps.

CAKE on DD-WRT worked much better than Mikrotik's SFQ queue tree but it's too unstable for home networking (wifi crashes, wan drops, etc), consider adding CAKE queue type instead of FQ-Codel since it provides the lowest fluctuations during heavy load, http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/63079766 thi...

Since they recently licensed the entire WiFi spectrum for the US versions of their AC products, I guess they will for their WISP products since current consumer clients won't connect on those frequencies.

Well, if you use PCQ you have some knobs to twiddle. I have improved ADSL2+ responsiveness with PCQ in simple queues by making the buffers smaller than the default (which otherwise seem to work well with 50+MBit speeds). For example on an ADSL2 annex m line with max-limit=1400k/16500k these queues ...
