If I run /ip route print detail I see all the routes learned through BGP are gateway-state=recursive. Is that what the state should be? I have one more question, and here is the network setup: ISP 1 ---BGP--- ether1\ |Mikrotik Router| ISP 2 ---BGP--- ether3/ Can I set two default gateways like this?...

Thanks for the help Eugene. This made all the BGP routes active. And I actually understand why.

Moving to new provider

I currently have my backbone setup with OSPF and it works great. Now I need to add another border router into the network that is connected to another provider. Of course the new provider is giving us new IPs. I can subnet the new IPs and place them on the mountain top/backbone routers. This will al...

2.9.27 BGP Multihop

Bad news. This doesn't work. My setup: Tik router with a /30 on the WAN let say 1.1.1.1 Directly connected to my provider 1.1.1.2 I setup a peering connection with 1.1.2.1 which is directly connected to 1.1.1.2. I added a static route to 1.1.2.1 with a gateway of 1.1.1.2. I am able to pull all the r...

2.9.11 routing-test BGP questions

I'm going to have two providers advertising the same address space. I already have my AS number. My question is how do I weight a path in/out of my network. I want to have a preferred path. Should I be using 2.9.11 routing-test? One provider requires a md5 password and I didn't see that anywhere in ...

Does SSH need to be more secure

My boss seems to think that since the ssh server on the Mikrotik box sends a key when trying to login, this is a security hole. Is there anyway to break that key and get into the server. His big concern is that anyone that tries to login via ssh and is allowed by the firewall of course gets issued t...

L2TP Server

I have followed the instructions below. Now how do I get a win2k box to connect to it? Do I need to configure stuff in the /ip ipsec area? Should I be using something else? I'm trying to use a client PC and have it connect to a Tik box that will form a secure connection to the LAN side of the Tik bo...

Different Card

Yes I tried a different card. I bench tested all of this and it worked except for the machine using the routerboard24 card. I thought it was a fluke so I just set that machine aside I tried to implement this on our live network and it failed miserably. The only difference between the bench test and ...

Turn them in

Copy the logs to your system. Visit http://www.arin.net and see who the IP address belongs to. Then email their Internet provider, normally something like abuse@?????.com.

Not Really

This is more of a hardware question not a software question. If it is being discussed please point me in that direction.

RouterBoard24 & OSPF

Is there some kind of bug with the RouterBoard24 4 port cards and OSPF. I am using 386 machines and putting in two 4 port cards. So far the only trouble I have had is with the RouterBoard24 cards. They only enter the state "init" with another router.
