Let's have some more information about your setup - ip addresses, routes, nat, bridges etc. I'm not sure why you want nat/masq in a separate router, but all the same it's definitely doable.

Or you can eliminate wds entirely and use station pseudobridge at one end and bridge or ap-bridge at the other.

Wireless clients don't support bridge mode. Since you put wlan1 (5ghz) in a bridge, you're going to have to use 'station pseudobridge' instead of 'station'.

A general rule if you MUST use wds is to ensure you're using the same brand at either end.
Hardware from different manufacturers isn't guaranteed to function optimally in a wds mix as far as my experience goes.
I suggest you replace that Airlive unit with a routerboard.

I am still not clear about your setup:
ether1 is for the LAN in question and some public PCs, wlan1 for visitors

However, with frequent writes, erasures and rewrites to the disk by your proxy cache - the disk is likely to use up its rewrite cycles (and thus fail!) sooner than if you had the cache running separately. I've had an RB433 + 2radios run great on 12v, for months.

I recommend 18v though, particularly if you're going to use up all the slots and/or use high power radios - XR2 etc.

Is there any benefit to using a 24V power supply? You can run an RB433 with 3 radios with poe. Is there any disadvantage to using a 12V power supply? You can't. You don't need the wan interface eth1 configuration. Without modification of routes and so on, it's bound to break your internet connectivity if running.

WCCP? That's a first for me!

I believe its equivalent in routeros is transparent proxy, i.e proxy (cache) users don't have to manually configure their browsers.

Yes it can be done.

If any of the wireless interfaces is a client, you will have to enable 'station pseudobridge' instead of 'station' mode. Put all the interfaces in a bridge, assign appropriate ip to the bridge and you're good to go.

I encountered the same problem after switching providers once.
Everything was configured correctly, but it just wouldn't browse. I had to reset and reconfigure my router. Loaded my rsc backup files and i was back online.
I guess these things happen!

I'm not absolutely certain, but i suppose if you have the hotspot interaces assigned different ip pools, you can specify the specific pool (hotspot server surrogate!) in userman.

You almost had us on a wild goose chase here! First you mention hotspot, now you bring up pppoe. First you configure hotspot on ether2, now it appears you want pppoe (not hostspot) on a wlan interface.

Two things:
1. Upgrade your routeros version
