MT the answer for a DS3

Hello Mikrotonians! So, we are about to get a DS3 from Qwest. It's out first. They have quoted us $8000 for a Nortel DS3 router. This seems awfully high. Does Mikrotik have an enterprise solution for this? Is anyone currently using MT as a core router with a DS3 or greater link? What is the setup? A...

Re: solution for 23Mbit backhaul

thanks for the tips. unfortunately, the 333 are still in a test phase and in the states we can only by them two at a time. This is going to be a mission critical feed, so I hoping not to "try it out" Has anyone had experience with the 333 as a reliable backhaul? How about the 532? Or is it...

Re: solution for 23Mbit backhaul

That seemed to be more a discussion of linksys vs mikrotik. I am more interested in knowing what kind of antennas are recommeneded.. frequency advantages of one over the other for a backhaul, recommend routerboard models and firmware... I find it hard to believe a 133C would be a good choice to try ...

solution for 23Mbit backhaul

we have the opportunity to backhaul 23Mbit (1/2 DS3 to a nearby tower 1 mile away. We will shoot onto a busy FM tower. What is the miktoik solution for this? again, just one mile away, clear LOS.

Re: shielded CAT5 cable question

Is that with or without the grounded/shielded RJ45 ends?

POE switches and Mikrotik

Has anyone got Mikrotik/Routerboard gear to work with POE switches. I am pulling my hair out trying to get them to work. I HAVE made Canopy POE switches (CMM) work with routerboard gear by making a double crossover cable, but I cannot seem to get them to work with either endspan or midspan POE switc...

shielded CAT5 cable question

I have a question regarding weather it is better to ground a shielded CAT5 cable at the bottom of a tower and use regular RJ45 ends, or use the shielded RJ45 ends with no grounding.

Re: POE switches and noise

Hello, Update: Purchased all the clip on and ring RF chokes our local radio shack had. I installed all of them, not really knowing what I was doing. On the most problematic cables I used 4 loops on the top and bottom of the cable. I also moved the ground to an independant ground. WHOA! That helped a...

Re: POE switches and noise

I grounded the CAT5E shield yesterday per your suggestion. Seems to be a little better, but we still dropped last night. The tower owner says "harmonics!" and suggested moving gear around and changing the length of the ethernet cables. Didn't make much sense to me. He also suggested throwi...

POE switches and noise

Hey folks, We are colocated with an FM radio station and have lot's of problems communicating via POE to our RB112s and 532s (from server in radio hut up the tower to the POE(about 25% loss), 80 ft shielded CAT5E. We think it is due to the 10000watt amp sitting in the same room for the FM radio. We ...
