we are changing to that policy sometime soon ..
Will that apply for people that already are stuck at 2.9.x, or will we have to purchase a new key that can be upgraded through the entire 2.x.x chain?

"upgradable until" means just that ...
I would expect that I could upgrade within the same 2.9.x tree, as no new features are really added and everything is basically a bug fix......

I have a router running 2.9.9, and the license says its "upgradable until July 1st, 2006....can i still upgrade to the latest 2.9.x release, or do I need to buy a new key?

I tried to upload the packages to the router and issued the reboot command, but it did not upgrade the software...

Re: 2.9.18 strange bandwidth and VoIP problems

I just upgraded my network from 2.9.6 to 2.9.18 and some very strange problems have started to occur. Our network is made up of CM9 5.8 backhaul with Prism2.4 for the clients. No node has more the 50 people. We use hotspot for authentication and b/w levels. We upload the list of clients to each mik...

do you hae any NAT on that router, or somewhere in the middle? if yes, then enable gre and pptp conntrack helpers in /ip firewall service-port I looked at the ip firewall service-port list, and pptp and gre are enabled, but i noticed that pptp shows up as "I" (invalid). Why would this be?? [rwhalen...

O yes, it is very powerful option. At first, you have a group of clients with simple queue for each of them, but you want to limit them all together to some bandwidth. Example: each user can have 64k but you want all of them to be able to use total of 256k. Make one simple queue to shape to 256k an...

Simple QUeues with Parent Option

Could someone give me an example of how to use a simple queue w/ a parent simple queue? I understand technically how to do it, but I am not sure on a situation when it would be beneficial.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan, I would do something like this: limit-at: 256k/394k max-limit: 512k/768k burst-threshold: 512k/768k burst-limit: 768k/1024k burst-time: 10 (seconds) this is good for browsing so they can open websites faster, i don't see any other use for this. What's the point to burst donwloads?! Do not ...

Simple Queue Question

Hi- We use MikroTik (2.9.x) to limit customer's bandwidth using simple queues. We have two T1's, for a total of 3.0Mbps/3.0Mbps. What we have tried to do is give everyone 768Kbps down and 512Kbps up burstable to 1Mb down and 768Kb up. Currently, our simple queues are configured with the following: l...

How to stop auto-discovery?

I created a small map in The Dude that only included a few key hosts in my network. Whenever i close out and open it back up, The Dude automatically discovers a bunch of hosts and adds it to my map. HOw can i stop it from doing this and just keeping what I have added to the map?

I don't think web proxy is available on the RouterBoards because there isn't enough storage memory to save the cached pages/files.

VRRP Question

I am working on configuring VRRP with two MikroTik routers. In all of the documentation outside of the RouterOS documentation, i see the mention of both gateways sharing an IP address (the default gateway for hosts) and a MAC address, with only one router having the gateway/mac active. I don't see a...

For instance you could export all of your simple queues and import ...

The queues were change in 2.8. It is no longer necessary to mangle the traffic and use trees to control clients. The only mangle rules I have are passthrough flowmarks for normal and p2p traffic so that I can use a queue tree to control p2p speed. All the queues to control client speed are simple q...

MikroTIk 2.8.11 Problem with Simple Queues

Just recently upgraded to 2.8.11 from 2.7, and now are having a problem with how we had our simple queues setup. We had a simple queue for each customer IP to limit downloads. Then, to prevent unauthorized IPs from gaining access, we added rules at the bottom of the list to limit the entire subnet t...

You're going to have to do a little testing... 1. Does the transparent proxy work without the parent set? Yes, transparent proxy is now working fine w/ mikrotik having no parent specified. 2. If yes, you need to check that Mikrotik has access to the parent (go to 2a). If no goto step 3 2a. Double c...

MikroTik 2.8.11 - Parent Proxy Problem

I was using MikroTIk 2.7 as a transparent proxy, with transparent proxy to point to my FreeBSD proxy. All was working well, until i upgraded to 2.8.11. Now, with the parent proxy specified in the mikrotik, it will not work. Any ideas? Is this a bug?

Upgrade from 2.7 to Current 2.8.x

Are there any known issues from upgrading from RouterOS 2.7 to the latest 2.8 release? I plan to do this sometime this weekend. Will anything need to be reconfigured after the upgrade (Queues, etc.) or will it all work just how it is now?

Thanks,
Ryan
