Re: fq_codel/CAKE stories? [SOLVED]

Yep... they look reversed in terms of reported simple queue data to me, at least in terms of what I, an admitted amateur at this, would expect. I added a new besteffort Cake queue and fired up a YouTubeTV stream to see if upload or download increased more in the "traffic" tab panel and the...

Re: fq_codel/CAKE stories? [SOLVED]

There is one additional important detail you have to keep in mind: the bandwidth limits are given from the target interface’s perspective, not that of your client. We are used to specifying asymmetric Internet bandwidths like these in terms of the client perspective, but that will give you an upsid...

Re: fq_codel/CAKE stories? [SOLVED]

Just basically a cut and paste from another forum post on queues, but this is my queue story: I have 300M up and down from FiOS and honestly it's pretty good out of the box, but it isn't perfect all the time. I'm always wondering if it would be better to just use FastTrack with the default only-hard...

Re: ROS 7.14: fq-codel-ethernet-default queue type

I don't understand the effectiveness of using fq_codel on interfaces without max-limit set either, and I haven't figured out how to easily measure whether it makes any difference beyond the anecdotal. Typical speed/bufferbloat tests seem the same for me whether I have interfaces set as fq_codel or l...

Re: Cake and Queue Trees

I waffle back and forth all the time. I have 300M up and down from FiOS and honestly it's pretty good out of the box, but it isn't perfect all the time. I'll go a month with FastTrack on and nothing but the default only-hardware-queue set, but then we'll get a zoom or YouTubeTV hiccup and I'll convi...

Re: SQM - using FQ-CODEL in interface queues and fasttrack

This was in one of the change logs for an earlier release. Perhaps, even though this is LTE-specific, this suggests that FQ_Codel can work at line rate with Mikrotik interfaces... as opposed to only when FQ_Codel is added in a queue tree or simple queue? *) defconf - use "fq_codel" queue a...

Re: CAKE queue dropping traffic when using bandwidth limit

I think simple queues always want the max-limit set in the simple queue, as opposed to in the queue type added (like the cake bandwidth limit within the cake type when you add it as a cake type). I think queue trees also want the max-limit added in the queue tree, as opposed to the queue type. I thi...

Re: CAKE, FQ-codel etc, which ROS7 queue is best in your testing?

So for now I have removed CAKE, and gone back to Simple queue + FQ_Codel. The ARP issue is not solved as it appears to still be doing it. Out of interest, should I have WASH unticked on the LAN? I ask because that was my first action: change LAN back to HW only queue, untick WASH, re-enable Cake on...

Re: SQM - using FQ-CODEL in interface queues and fasttrack

It's unclear to me if FQ_Codel does anything without having a max-limit set. If I set FQ_Codel on to an interface with a queue tree with a max-limit set, it limits traffic. If I just attach FQ_Codel to the wan or any interface, it's unclear to me if it's doing anything. It's unclear to me if FQ_Code...

Re: RB5009 Cake / SQM issue

Yeah... there are some super interesting threads with @dthat and others here on setting up cake and fq_codel. With all disclaimers that I have no real idea what I'm doing, I think that I think the following after trying to follow queue discussions that are way above my pay grade: You can change your...

Re: v7.14beta [testing] is released!

Newbie beta testing question: When there are changes listed that include "*) defconf - ..." does that mean that changes have been made to the initial "default configuration," and if so, is it suggested that testers run the "system > reset configuration" process after up...

Re: v7.13 [stable] is released!

@donkeyKong I've had random problems using cake with the bandwidth limit set in the cake queue itself, as opposed to setting the max-limit through either a queue tree using cake or a simple queue using cake. I'm not sure if this is a cake issue, a 7.13 issue, or a me issue. Just throwing it out ther...

Re: v7.14beta [testing] is released!

Why turning off ECN? I'm not an expert, but I think @dtaht said somewhere that ECN off is a safer default as it can cause conflicts at times when it doesn't get what it expects? I reset my RB5009 to the default config to see if it auto put fq_codel on the interfaces, and it did not for me. I just u...

Re: v7.14beta [testing] is released!

I think the "failure: non rate limit queues are useless on this interface" warning is just if you try to assign a queue to the bridge, as opposed to just one of the ethernet ports.

Are there any advantages to disabling FastTrack on firewall? [SOLVED]

I know that you need to disable FastTrack in order to use simple queues, but if you're just running a plain vanilla setup with the exception of running cake in queue trees on the bridge and wan with no marks, is there any "accuracy" (or other!) advantage to letting the router's cpu handle ...

Just curious, @kenyloveg, but do you have 1gb up and down, or do you have 1.5gb up and down? /queue type add cake-memlimit=64.0MiB cake-rtt=60ms kind=cake name=cake_rx add cake-memlimit=64.0MiB cake-rtt=60ms kind=cake name=cake_tx /queue tree add bucket-size=0 max-limit=1550M name=cake_download pack...

Re: Using RouterOS to QoS your network - 2020 Edition

I found an old thread (viewtopic.php?t=113308) that talks about using QoS with FastTrack enabled. That got me interested. After reading the thread and also reviewing packet flow documentation, I came to realize I can successfully use this approach with fq_codel. Code: Select all /queue type add fq-...
