That is why you don't use backup on one routerboard and restore that same backup file to another. It will bring the mac addresses with it. RB1100 - Overclocking results

Good news. My preliminary tests show that the RB1100 might be quite reliable when overclocked to 1GHz. I have been testing new brands of RAM with RB1100 boards this week. I decided to test several of them with all available CPU and RAM speed settings. The default speed as shipped is 800MHz CPU and 4...

You need a two position DC relay to isolate the two power supplies. It should be powered by one of the supplies. If that supply dies the relay goes the other way and the other POE input is supplying power.

But is this really needed?

Re: RB 433 and 3 x DCMA-82 cards dont fit

I don't think touching will be a problem as the "can" is a big ground plane and the back of the card should be the same.

But you could damage the connectors if there is too much force or stress on them. And the damage won't be covered under warranty.

Re: RB 433 and 3 x DCMA-82 cards dont fit

No the radios will not work unless they are fully installed and locked down. Ask your reseller to exchange the DCMA's for Mikrotik radio cards. They will fit three in the triple slot. The only caveat is that you cannot use an MMCX connector in the top card slot with most of the indoor cases and stil...

Turn off nstream. It does not help when you are dropping packets. I suspect you are doing that but hard to tell without more details.

What is the CCQ at each end?

What are the signals strengths at each end?

Did you scan each end to see what spectrum was used and what was available?

Re: I’m too stupid for SwOS

I haven't played with VLANs on my RB250GS yet but make sure that you upgrade to SwOS version 1.1 before you give up on your configuration.

I believe it fixes a number of basic bugs in the initial 1.0 release like setting the IP address and rebooting the switch.

Re: 20 inches pigtail

The smallest coax that we work with (for custom cables) is LMR195 and most often we make LMR400 cables for customers. The smallest connector that we have for LMR195 is SMA or RPSMA. MMCX and UFL are much smaller and require much smaller diameter cable. We purchase pre-made pigtails in bulk for the s...

I don't think you will need a manual. Configuration is pretty intuitive. The default IP is 192.168.88.1 Just connect to it with a web browser and go through the menus. There is an SNMP option and a statistics menu with lots of port details so I will assume that you can access these statistics throug...

You can build one yourself for cheaper if you don't need more than 10/100: http://www.altsec.info/passive-network-tap.html
Nice hack but the 10% to 50% packet loss isn't very inviting.

Re: RB250GS - Use Ideas

I've got an interesting idea on one way to use the RB250GS. We might use it as an inexpensive "4-port ethernet card" in an x86 MikroTik. Essentially, we would use VLANs between the RB250GS and a VLAN-capable single-port NIC. Obviously this wouldn't be a bright idea if we were pushing a heap of traf...

It has been decided now.

My only question is, Why no training classes offered from the MT staff? Is this planned to be a mini-MUM?

Please at least offer the intro class. I believe that the MT training classes are a big reason to plan for attending MUM.

What is the ETA for the solution? One day, two days?
I would try the beta which you can download now.

MT is now closed for the weekend so we won't see their stable until Monday at the earliest and probably much later than that.

How high off the ground (and water) are the antennas? Does tide affect this body of water? Do you have enough height for 100% fresnel zone clearance? It sounds like the radio waves are getting deformed either by reflection off the water or by an obstruction. Make sure you are running horizontal pola...

Try MikroTik RouterOS version 5.0beta3.

Although it is not mentioned in the change log, it was supposed to have fixed your well known problem.

If you don't want to run beta, wait for ROS version 4.11.

You really need a Multicore CPU or processor designed for SMP architecture.

The Atheros CPUs don't fit that model.
