Re: Setting ping interval (like in Netwatch)

might be a few different things i can think of. First is how fast is the server you're running dude on. if the servers lagging obviously your response times would too. second how many devices are you polling, how many devices are being monitored. i guess a limitation on the software would be that th...

Re: Setting ping interval (like in Netwatch)

higher powers correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I've found. if you go into the settings and modify the polling times this should do what you want it to do. you can do this on a global level or you can do it on each individual machine. I don't recall what the defaults are but there are three m...

Re: SNMP Graphs

that's funny, I've brought this up a few times and I think I even put it on the Features request page as well. Big downer for such a great program. The two main functions i use the dude for is it's graphing ability and graphical maps. one of these is near perfect, the other leaves me wanting more.

Dude Beta8 upgrade path

has anyone figured out a fool proof way to upgrade from beta 7 to beta 8? I'd love to get some of the new features, however i don't want to redraw and enter my entire network. I'm getting the following problems do you want to upgrade to 3.07 on startup can't connect to local server program loses con...

Re: Spontaneouse service Changes

well that's an interesting concept isn't it. I'm wondering also about a device that magically appeared on my map. the part that gets me is I've manually setup my map to physical topology, not logical, and it knew exactly which switch to put it on and even drew the link. now that's strange. keep in m...

Spontaneouse service Changes

Sometimes I've noticed that PC's in general will change their monitored services and I'm wondering why. at one point last week i set all PC's to monitor ping only. strangely, they are all monitoring ping and netbios now, some just netbios. anyone have any ideas what could cause this. thanks, Beer.

and to think i was just about to bump this one. i've still had no luck in determining the Unit of measurement for the speed setting on an snmp link. Any takers? if i don't get an answer i'll just have to assume it's bytes, but i hate to assume. as we all know it makes an "ass" out of "...

Re: Question about deleting logs

i'll be willing to bet that the outages you've got are stored in the data file that dude creates. it's kind of (i think) a proprietary DB structure within a .dat file. you could always try backing up your configuration, and then loading it on another computer. to see if it clears there. then you'd a...

link speed question

i'm setting up snmp monitoring on a few links and it keeps changing color to indicate that it's full. if i'm understanding this correctly full means the pipe is maxed out based on the speed you entered when setting it up. obviously every link on my network is not maxed out so i'm wondering what the ...

Re: Fundamental Graphing Problem?

huh, that's funny. i've got the same issue but i work around it by adding a new chart, and then clicking OK without nameing it. then i right click it and hit settings. from that point i can do whatever i want, including renaming the chart, and adding data points.

Re: Vote for new DUDE features!

how'd the name of this program come about anyway? my only request would be more control in the graphs. it's nice to be able to quickly change from hour to day to week to month to year, but what about when you need to get granular. they seem to be a bit vague as far as data labels. Also the ability t...

Anyone know how to monitor bandwidth (%) on a cisco router?

Anyone figured out a way to monitor bandwidth on devices that are not microtik. i've got a bunch of cisco routers and i'd like to monitor our T1 bandwidth but can't seem to figure out a way of doing it. it's probalby glaringly obviouse and i'm just over looking it.

you're talking collecting syslog messages from network devices? i hate to say it, but i don't think the current version of dude supports that function. i was excited about it too, but later found that the syslog folder you see in the left hand panel is an internal syslog. I have however been wonderi...

Re: "segments" on The Dude network map?

Possible Vlan without an ip address is causing the multiple segmenting? i've noticed in my time using the dude that it's not that good at organizing things in a complex environment (i.e. five routers, 15 external addresses, 22 switches, 8 vlans) in most cases i've just redrawn it to fit the actual t...

Re: Anyone figured out how to use panels?

well that's lucky for you, but i wish we knew what caused it. i've run into some minor glitches like that in other areas too. for instance when I create charts, if i name the chart before adding the data points, when trying to add data points it'll say unknown type. so what i do is make the chart, a...

dang, that's what I was afraid of. oh well. i'll just need to setup an agent or something that doesn't get changed. but that's one heck of a waste of a computer. i'm using 3b7. wonder when they're going to release a newer version? oh well like you said in another post, it's free, and i really like t...

I wonder if this is not the same unexplained network wide death that i discovered. We're running 3.07 beta on win server 2003, and administered from an XP box. after running for about two to three months one day all our wireless devices locked up (30 cisco 1200's, 2 cisco 1400's) i couldn't do anyth...

i'm actually interested in this as well. i checked the system folders for the dude, and the only thing i could find was a .dat file that seemed to contain all the information. as this seems like a rather vulnerable position to be in, is there a way to build an sql backend, or will it be included in ...
