If you click on the View Objects link, you will get the details of what each file defines.

The module names give some indication as to what the function of the MIB is.
You may find model specific MIBs here: http://support.3com.com/software/mibs_transcend.htm

You would need to know the correct MIB to extract information form the ARP cache your devices. These would be specific to your products manufacturer.
Conversely, you could use nmap -sP to ping sweep the router/switch and get the list that way.

Doing it this way allows the map object to just update without spawning a duplicate every time a change is detected. Makes life easier in the long run.

On the General tab for a device try setting DNS Lookup to Name to IP, and set the MAC Lookup to IP to MAC. I haven't seen any duplicates in a very long time with this setup.

Is your server blocking ICMP traffic?
Is the server running a firewall that doesn't allow the application to do this?

Since the devices respond to ping from other machines, then I don't think it's ICMP blocking at the routers and switches, but at the server itself.

Probably related to how when I remove certain probes from the probe list, they automagically reappear and cause my maps to light up with alerts I am not currently concerned about. Mind you, they don't reappear if Dude is re-started, they just show up again at any old time without any human intervent...

When you say "address lists", do you have address lists configured in The Dude? If this is the case, you may be blocking those IP addresses from display, as this is how I use the Address List feature. It blacklists the IPs for items that I don't want to have displayed on the network map.

The backup is an XML file that contains your configuration of the Dude. It pretty much contains references to everything about the configuration and what is displayed on the map. You can view it by opening it in a browser window or notepad, or an XML editor of your choosing.

Well, I got a panel called user to remain persistent. It has the map, outages and a log displayed. I was also able to lock it. It appears to be running with no problem. I can even switch between the two on-the-fly. Don't know what the initial problem was, but it seems to have resolved itself.

you may want to configure the allowed networks setting. If I remember I had to do this before I could connect to the server, even when using localhost. Also, ensure that telnet is not being denied on the server. Not knowing your OS in this case I can't recommend more specific settings to check.

You can sort by selecting Tools, and click the Name column header. It will sort alphabetically in A-Z or Z-A. There is not a way to further change the order of the Tools that I can find.

Essentially you can use these to keep map objects up-to-date, without the Dude creating duplicate objects when information changes, i.e., IP addresses in a dhcp environment.

I'm running it on a desktop PC with WinXP with no problems.
It will be moved to a dedicated server shortly, and the config will be imported directly into the server setup so that there will be no interruption of service.
