Re: v6.45.5 [stable] is released!

What Mikrotik can do though, is to automatically add filter rules in firewall once one sets up a gre tunnel, or any tunnel dependent on gre.

Where is the procedure detailed on how firewall rules are automatically created?

Hi All,

For those having trouble with EoIP/GRE following the upgrade the below workaround worked for me:

/ip firewall raw add action=notrack chain=prerouting protocol=gre

Good tip !! Got me back up and running with 6.45.1 :D :D

I keep getting the same old package to upgrade to, 6.42.6, even after manually updating to 6.42.7.
I've checked my DNS and the Mikrotik IP upgrade address and all seem fine.

Re: How do Switch VLANs work?

Configuring VLAN's seem to be complicated in a way due to the approach Mikrotik has gone when compared with CISCO.  Because of the different "switch chips" that are designed into different RouterBoards, this can be even more confusing.  There has been quite a few write-ups regarding this, with a few...

There's quite a bit of info online in the RouterOS Wiki section.  Along with that, I could easily recommend the following book by Steve Discher:

Not really.  It's actually pretty cool.

1.  Create two configurations...  One will be the master, and one the slave.  The slave will become the vAP.
2.  Provision the two, master and slave.

That's about all you have to do.

RC software is for testing purposes, do not complain if your unit doesn't boot after upgrade. If you want to be useful, try to describe your problem to mikrotik's staff, so they can find and fix the bug that caused it.
I have every right to complain if the software locks up my router !!

Mikrotik's has always had a non-conventional syntax approach to Vlans. It makes it difficult at times to understand their approach when you've learned CISCO's syntax.

Doesn't mean I don't like the Tik boxes, just wished it was a bit more conventional for cross platform knowledge. 8)

RouterOS 6.30rc11

*) tunnels - eoip,eoipv6,gre,gre6,ipip,ipipv6,6to4 tunnels have new property - ipsec-secret
- for easy setup of ipsec encryption and authentication;
Can someone elaborate a bit on how to implement this feature?
Does this circumvent any thing in the IPSEC Peer entry?

Thanks,

Maybe as a separate tab or field to differentiate from the full release version.

I've had a lot of bad luck getting "auto-mtu" to function properly and usually results in a mismatch of MTU's between different types of end points i.e. cable modems using DHCP and DSL modems using PPPoE. It ends up, as I indicated earlier, with different mtu's on each end of the link. Now this can ...

One of the weaknesses of the lower cost routers is the lack of a console port. CCR1009 Switch Chip

How do you access the switch chip that is connected to ports 1-4 ?
I see no menu for it from Winbox or CLI.
Has there been a last minute change and all ethernet ports are connected to the CPU, pr am I just missing something ?

MikroTik does support PIM, obviously... :-).. But only Sparse Mode, which is actually more efficient. I use PIM-Sparse mode on my Tik boxes to a device that only uses PIM-Dense Mode and it seems to work ok. Might think about establishing BSR/RP Candidates on the appropriate interfaces using the default Multicast range.
